The problem with the current protests are they are targeting "friendly" European countries who are already trying to reverse the air and plastic pollution and will tolerate these types of protest
The real targets are America, Russia, China, India, the far East and the Arab States
I cant see any of those countries reversing their rise in wealth, lifestyle and luxury goods on the say so of a bunch of European school children

At the end of the day Duggie you can only think globally but act locally - and her starting point was Europe because that is where she lives. You are wrong in saying that she has not targeted America because she has been there as well. As for India - there were protests there as well recently. Not sure about the rest. You include China and the far East as being in some way 'more of a problem' yet who is buying the majority of China's products, and the majority of Arab oil ? We are partly involved in their emissions as well.
You make a good point, and just how do countries influence others? No it shouldn't be just school kids raising the issues, but it is fair to say that one young girl has certainly brought the environment up as a topic that is being discussed. It can only be by discussion and debate at the highest government levels. Somehow it needs the population at large to let their government know that this is a real issue for them. It is no good either a single country getting on it's high horse, it needs large groupings of countries to be agreed. How ridiculous would it be for the UK to say that the wind will never come from the east and blow noxious substances across our country?

But I think the problems with India and china etc is they are using the technology for power that we used 30 years ago because the West is not sharing the latest technology with them
I am convinced there are papers locked away somewhere with the solution to generating power with out using oil etc but that would bankrupt the big oil companies/counties
When you think about it the earth is a giant dynamo and should therefore create its own electricity

Single countries getting on high horses is a start Frenchie, and proves to the others that it can be done. At the end of the day you can only act locally and if groups of countries had always waited for each other in the past then many great developments such as the Rennaissance, Enlightenment or Reformation would never have happened.
I was thinking on a larger canvas cologne. We know that many of the European countries are making efforts already. Everyday in my news I read about the environment. It is the hottest topic going here.
Having had three daughters with young grandchildren I would say definitely not. Let children be children, this bright and decent precocious child is being unfairly manipulated.

I also have three daughters and a son,and seven grandchildren all in their teens. They are taking note of what is said, and the ones in France do communicate with the ones in England. It would be unfair to them to say that the evidence they have seen is the result of manipulation. I listen to them all, and know that it is a topic of debate along with football, bands and singers.

To be fair SH. Greta Thunberg is not a child. From one generation to the next so called 'childhood' gets longer and longer - I left school without any qualifications at 15 and was paying taxes at 16. The fact that we now keep them as children for longer and longer (sometimes in full time education until 30) is not their fault but a result of our system. Food for thought is that Alexander the Great led an army at 12. I do not think that any of the politicians who have actually spoken to her had the feeling they were talking to a child.

I very much enjoy discussing world issues with teenagers, mind you most are more au fait with Love Island than real life.
