Good thing that Australia fell into the same trap that we so often fall into: the trap of thinking that you must select a spinner no matter what.

If they are good enough to bat in the top 7, then fine, pick them. No problem at all. But if they aren't good enough to bat that high, then they actually need to be a very, very good spinner in order to accommodate one of those final four spots in England. I don't really care how many wickets Todd Murphy took in India. Conditions in England could barely be more different.

Across the entire match, he faced 22 balls (scoring 24) and bowled 9.3 overs (taking one wicket). What a waste of a pick.

Is that 'pick' with a silent 'r' ? <whistle>

Somerset resting Overton, Gregory, Henry, Davey and TKC for our four day match this week, ahead of Saturday.

We've gone full strength - albeit there are only three or four players who will be playing for us in both matches anyway.

This will be Bess' third four-day game in a row playing for a different county.

On 11 June he lined up for Yorkshire. In the next round of matches, on 27 June, it was Warwickshire. And now it's Somerset.

I wonder if anyone else has done that before?

And without the likes of Gregory, Overton and RVDM, hopefully this will be a rare occasion where Somerset's lower order aren't able to bail them out of trouble.

That said, Rew is having a great season.
