I wonder if some time in the future we will ever see the Overton brothers and the Curran brothers all in an England team at the same time.
I now hope Surrey over cook their 1st innings run total & waste a bit of time. Edit. Jeez, everything is going their way. Looks like a maximum for them. #anythingyoucando
Surely Northants can bat beyond the end of the day and at least get the game past lunch tomorrow Whatever happens, I think it is only a matter of time EDIT: and checking their averages any real resistance is down to these two
Yes, unfortunately it's often too much to ask the weaker team to do it twice in a row. Yes, they batted decently in the first innings, but I was expecting them to get not exactly rolled over, but bowled out relatively cheaply second time and Surrey to win comfortably. It was the same with Leics in a game earlier this season, against Notts. They racked up a big score first time round, a bit unexpectedly, but once Notts matched them and gained a lead there was no chance they could build a big innings second time around and they ended up losing heavily. 440 plays 548 and then bowled out for only 99 in their 2nd innings.
Even if they were somehow still batting after lunch tomorrow, I'd still make Surrey massive favourites to chase down, say, 150. I don't see Northants batting too quickly tomorrow. They need to still be batting at tea, really. The only thing which I'm clinging onto is Keogh and Steel getting wickets. Neither are front line spinners, so for them to be getting wickets suggests some decent turn could be in play tomorrow.
What is needed is a combination of stonewall batting and a lot of rain, or at least bad light. What will probably happen is a combination of balsa wood batting, bright sunshine and easy bowling deliveries to Surrey's openers
Fairplay to Northants - they're not rolling over for Surrey. I still expect Surrey to win but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they can get a draw.
Snater has ensured that Yorks aren't safe quite yet. So they'll still have something to fight for vs Surrey next week.
Looks like Somerset have at least ensured a draw against Warks, 300 ahead with 6 wickets left. Bat until lunch and have a go, or just bat on?
You certainly don't want to lose so I'd look to score another 50 runs or so then declare. If they chase 350 it's hats off to them.
I had two targets for Northants to reach in the 15 overs before Surrey could take the new ball. One was not to lose a wicket and the other was to score 50 runs. Well, they haven't lost a wicket and they've scored 67 runs. Very happy with that. The lead is now almost 200.
