Hard to work out if our batting made this pitch look worse than it is or if our spin bowling is just crap.

Considering Root looked to be getting the most out of the pitch I'm leaning toward the latter!

Both are an issue. But for me, the latter is absolutely the biggest issue. It's no surprise that the only time we've won a series here for years (and in fact, the last time that India ever lost a home series) was when we had Swann and Monty together in 2012.

Interesting battle/partnership this between Burns and Lawrence, with Crawley and Bairstow both waiting in the wings.

Shouldn't think this will last very long, almost every delivery looks lethal

Yeah, even with the result long gone this is still quite an interest watch. A number of places very much up for grabs and what better way to stake a claim than with a good score on a pitch like this.

I think Foakes has done his chances a world of good with the bat and gloves - another half decent knock from him here will keep the pressure on Buttler.

Moeen Ali has decided to leave the squad and head home - I think that is the last we will see of him in the test side
He didn't decide to, England made the call. They're rotating players to give them a break from the bubble.

Edit: just seen it was his choice. But they won't hold it against him.

See my edit.
Ah right. Yeah, I don't think they will hold it against him and I know he is popular amongst the squad.

My comment was more from the fact he has already taken a long break from test cricket over 2019 and 2020, so to withdraw so soon after his return suggests to me he probably regrets returning. He may well be struggling mentally and considering the bubbles/restrictions likely to be in place throughout 2021, I don't know if he will be returning any time soon.

He hasn't got much chance of playing in the home tests or the Ashes down under as we'll only play 1 spinner if at all.
