Jofra saves our bacon, because during that third wicket partnership we were throwing the Ashes away. In tricky conditions, after electing to bowl first, things were going downhill fast. As it is, you'll always take 179 all out.
Yet again an excellent 19th from us. We regularly seem to bowl great 19th overs this season, whether by Abbott, Wood or Morris. The 20th over though usually disappears... (Good start though)
Not this time. Although it does help when they don't have a set batsman at the crease. Or a batsman of any note in fact.
I did feel slightly sorry for Middlesex, because we know what that is like. Indeed, we might be experiencing it ourselves in an hour or so. If we had Donald and Alsop available to play in place of Fuller and Holland, I'd have no worries about chasing 129. Should be a breeze. But as it is, if Vince, Rilee and Northeast all get knocked over early (which is very possible this season)...
I see that in the last 10 balls of the Middx innings they scored 1 run and lost 5 wickets Some sort of 20-20 record?
Just caught the channel 5 highlights and Boycott was very critical of Jofra being over used and that he was bowling uphill, whereas all the quickies usually bowl from the other end. Kind of makes Jofra’s efforts even better.
He only bowled 17 overs, with plenty of rest time. Boycott moaned about the same thing at Lords, but he’s wrong this time. Apart from anything else, Jofra’s pace was much lower overall than at Lords.
To be fair, he knows Headingley better than a lot of people. So there is probably some merit in what he says.
