Is it about time that cricket updated it’s rules to allow subs to bat and/or bowl? England started really well and, initially, didn’t seem to miss Anderson, but they clearly did as the innings unfolded. Could be the difference between England starting the series with a win or maybe even a defeat. It’s kind of like saying that a sub in football isn’t allowed to score a goal, set up a goal scoring opportunity or clear a shot off the line, but he is allowed to run around and tackle.
Needed those two wickets badly. Without Ravi, Essex do look a little light on batting after these two - but both of these guys are capable of going big.
He was passed fit by the medical staff, and Archer is still coming back from his sidevstrain. Easy to criticise in hindsight, but no one knew Jimmy would break down after 4 overs.
This is Chelmsford though, so we'll still find a way to lose from here. But I can enjoy this whilst it lasts.
