I have a very close friend who has suffered with it all his life .

The pressures of modern life don’t help , but if you are full of self loathing from as far back as you can remember , are an eternal pessimist , actually prayed you would wake up and be with Buck Roger’s and Col Wilma Deering , or just to not wake up at all ,

Then I feel he’s stuck with those issues no matter what era he is / was in .

In my day working in mental health services there were clinically 2 types of depression: 1. Endogenous, thought to be organic in origin. 2. Reactive, thought to be as the word suggests, when situations and/or circumstances provoke depressive reactions.
Endogenous depression was much harder to treat, partly because the cause was not easy to identify and therefore not accesible to talking therapies, although psychologists would argue that cognitive behavioural therapy has a part to play. It is also true that those unfortunate enough to suffer with endogenous depression may suffer psychotic episodes that are often extremely distressing. Although not a fan of electric convulsive therapy it is true to say it can be useful in breaking the cycle and allow a patient to regain touch with reality as most of us experience it. This also allows the patient to perhaps learn coping strategies and for loved ones and the patient to recognise signs of relapse before ideas of self harm intrude.. Medications can have a part to play in both types of depression but needs careful consideration and application. Hope this helps..

Sad reflection on certain aspects of society .

The sooner some people see it as a genuine and life threatening illness , the better it will be for everyone .

So I am proud of his family for talking openly about it .

There are still people who call suicide cowardly. Unless you do it to run from consequences, I think it is pretty brave.

    Suicide generally saddens me .

    Take Thorpe for instance .

He loved his family , they loved him , yet even that couldn’t stop him from taking his own life ,

As has been said , what about he poor Train Driver .

part of me thinks it’s a bit selfish , but then the person is in such turmoil , are they really accountable ?

    I don’t know .

Then you get people like the Pilot of the German Wings Plane .

He took his own life ,sad as that is . He decided to take the lives of the other 150 passengers / Crew .with him !

There should be no stigma attached whatsoever.

The scandal is the reduction in mental health beds and back facilities up as someone previously posted, halved I think it was. The prisons are full because of the numbers locked up that shouldn't be there

I think and hope that's changing with greater positive media coverage across the disability spectrum.

I think it costs $5 (I don't know why dollars) on the Leicestershire website.

Well done Turner, one big hitter down and one to go. Kimber is the other dangerman if he has a 'day out', as they say

So it's these 2 overseas players and Kimber to watch out for. I know Cox, Trevaskis and Scriven can all hold a bat, but any more wickets now will be huge for us.

They've lengthened their order by putting Walker as opener, but hopefully it won't pay off...
