Since1634 is an B&B on the edge of the Negen Straatjes, a popular shopping area in Amsterdam, with lots of small shops, art galleries and restaurants and brown cafe's. Close to all of the highlights of Amsterdam.
The house was built in 1634, it's located in the Jordaan. This area is recently placed on the World Heritage list of Unesco.

Hey Woopert - bit late posting this morning as it was a slow start - something I ate - no plump bird I'm afraid just a bit of cold tongue when I eventually arrived home - making the most of the morning as its going to be hosing down from midday and all Sunday might have to postpone the day out - hope your weather holds so we can put the cricket to bed and enjoy your day at the "home of English football" I will on the other hand on Sunday be standing at a rugby league oval 10 minutes away trying not to look like a drowned rat - beer to the rescue ATB

Laud`s Liturgy - the Book of Common Prayer (1637)
The Liturgy or “ The Book of Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments and other parts of Divine Service for the use of the Church of Scotland “ was published at Edinburgh in 1637. This was the sister package which, with the Canons published in 1636, aimed at introducing the high church – the semi Catholic episcopacy so favoured by Archbishop Laud. It was drafted by Maxwell, Bishop of Ross, and Wedderburn, Bishop of Dunblane, before submission to Archbishop Laud whose popish embellishments caused the furore that followed its implementation.

Catherine of Braganza was born in 1638, she married Charles II and was widely believed to have drunk one of the 1st cups of tea ever in England on her arrival. She got her flunkies to brew one up near the Garrison church in Old Portsmouth, (New Portsmouth back then) not long after her ship hove to at the Sally Port.

Old Charlie was a bit of a Gallant though and their marriage was frosty at best, due to him birding it up all over the place.

Brown rum distilled from fermented molasses. Aged up to 2 years in used whisky and bourbon barrels. First blended in 1989 to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the first parliament in the new world, 1639 is a blend of rums with a hint of spice that will enhance most drinks with the flavor of the islands. Bottled at 43% alcohol by volume.

Afternoon anti. Narrow defeat to Liverhampton, but at least Lambert didn't score against you - that would have been difficult to digest. Rain and sun today, so normal British weather. Don't know about you, but I could do with a drop of old Cockspur Rum, purely for medicinal purposes you understand :emoticon-0175-drunk

Gooday Woops - dry morning more rain this afternoon - there is a rum here called Bundaberg Overproof which is rather nice - yes thought we went rather better than anticipated - lap swimming resumes this week and the lane I use is next to the kids squad lane and when some child hurtles passed me like a polaris missile and I almost drown in the wake I must admit to feeling somewhat peeved - ATB

The Bolton Massacre, sometimes recorded as the Storming of Bolton, was an episode in the English Civil War, on 28 May 1644. The strongly Parliamentarian town was stormed and captured by Royalist forces under Prince Rupert. It was alleged that up to 1,600 of Bolton's defenders and inhabitants were slaughtered during and after the fighting. The "massacre at Bolton" became a staple of Parliamentarian propaganda.

When I first read this, I thought it was a football related matter involving the Wanderers !!

1646 was the fifth and final year of the First English Civil War. By the beginning of 1646 military victory for the Parliamentary forces was in sight. The last Royalist army was defeated in the field at the Battle of Torrington. From then on the New Model Army mopped up the remaining Royalist strongholds.

Shame we can't do that to the Scummers!<laugh> The 2014 Battle of Totton sounds good to me........<laugh>

11 November, 1647 - King Charles 1 attempts to escape captivity but is captured and imprisoned in Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight.

The Battle of Prague between 25 July and 1 November 1648 was the last action of the Thirty Years' War. General Hans Christoff von Königsmarck, commanding Sweden's flying column, entered the city, defended by the Governor Feldmarshall Rodolfo (Rudolph) Colloredo Mels und Wallsee, a former Wallenstein's general, and a veteran of the siege of Mantua and of the battle of Lutzen and captured Prague Castle on the western bank of the Vltava river.

1649- in this year the law was confirmed that Jaffa cakes, were in fact cakes, as opposed to general sweetmeats. This had a dramatic effect on the duty charged.
Cakes were defined as something which became harder if left out, whereas biscuits for example, got softer.
Of course, the Jaffa cakes were very different from the type mass produced now and were made in Elizabethan kitchens across the land. The Blackbird ones were particularly popular with children, who would suck everything else away, just leaving the bird gizzards as a disc, to be enjoyed at the end.
