Fortin Barometer - Brass #5682
$1,850.00

This is a Fortin barometer.

It was part of a collection that we acquired from gentleman who worked in the maritime industry across the globe for over 30 years.
Manufactured by Asco in Masulipatam, India (an old English and French port) it is made from brass it and fitted inside a case it would have been hung vertically on the wall with the case opened to take readings.
We have been told that this type of barometer was issued to vessels that were nominated to take metrological readings and is most likely circa 1920/30.

This locomotive, was built at Swindon in 1926 and spent its working life in and around Cardiff Valley hauling both freight and passenger trains.
Like many others, 5688 ended up sold to Woodham’s scrap yard at Barry in November 1964 as steam was phased out in favour of diesel.
It languished there, slowly losing parts, until rescued and moved to the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway in 1987.
