5699 was built at Crewe in April 1936 and named Galatea after HMS Galatea, which in turn was named after the Galatea of mythology. After nationalisation in 1948, it was renumbered 45699 by British Railways.

Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5709, a G-5S (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built in Juniata as number "5709" during August of 1924, renumbered "1817" in 1951, and retired in March of 1952 after 28 years of service.
Last revenue run of 5711, 23-9-1961 Born 1929, retired 1961. Its relatives started disappearing from 1957 and by September 1961, only 5711 remained. And so it is today. Nearly 60 years are after losing its usefulness. 5711 now resides at Valley Heights where it is being cosmetically restored for display.
