B&O 2-8-2 No. 4626 was a member of the Q-4b class, coming from Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1922-23. These engines had 64-inch drivers and cylinder dimensions of 25¾x32 inches, and mustered 220 p.s.i. of boiler pressure. Their grate area was 70 square feet; they had 3813 square feet of evaporative heating surface and 955 square feet of superheating surface. Weighing 327,400 pounds, they produced 61,996 pounds of tractive effort. Edward Lorence contributed this color image which an unknown photographer captured at Riverdale, Illinois on September 24, 1956. We have not been able to establish whether this powerful Mikado was renumbered before being retired from the roster.
