Locospotting pioneer. What is not so well known is that the man who made the books possible, series editor Eric Fry, is still with us. On the eve of his 90th birthday, he tells how the project came about and what it was like to be a wartime spotter in the years before the hobby turned into a national craze. Eric’s regular trips to Stratford enabled him to see most of the LNER’s ex-Great Eastern Railway locos, but diminutive ‘Y5’ class 0-4-0ST No. 7231 was one that got away, being scrapped in the early-1930s.
WP 7235 rolls into Gondia on 321 Passenger with a light load of only six cars. 7235 belonged to the South Eastern Railway and like most of their engines had a nice big number on the tender so there was no need to take notes at the time.
Nice picture but WP doesn't look like "Rolling In". It's in the shed where the maintenance staff is giving her TLC, whilst WG on the adjacent track is on the Ash/ Inspection pit.
