Ex-GWR 0-6-0PT 57xx class No 9798 stands coupled to ex-WD 'Austerity' 2-8-0 No 90174 at Birmingham Snow Hill on 24th March 1962. Built by Swindon works in September 1936, No 9798 was to remain in service until October 1964 when it was withdrawn from 88C Barry shed to be scrapped by Cohens of Morriston. The 'Austerity' was built by the North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow as No 7198 in August 1943, it was renumbered by the War Department as No 77198 in January 1945. It was later absorbed into British Railways stock and numbered as 90174 which it retained until December 1962 when it was withdrawn from service.
