LNER B4 Class steam locomotive No 6097, 5 June 1936. This London & North Eastern Railway B4 Class steam locomotive is pictured at Copley Hill engine shed in Leeds. It had been built as No 1097 for the Great Central Railway at Beyer Peacock & Co's works in Manchester and was completed in 1906. The locomotive was withdrawn from service by British Railways in 1950 and subsequently scrapped.
LMS 'Royal Scot' class 4-6-0 No 6102 'Black Watch, seen without smoke deflectors, is seen at the head of an up express at Tamworth. Built by the North British Locomotive Company in September 1927, No 6102 would be rebuilt with a tapered boiler in October 1949 which it retained until December 1962 when it was withdrawn from Corkerhill shed to be scrapped.
Locomotive PC 6105 Eastbound Conrail tonnage behind former PC and EL units on the former Pennsy, crossing the B&O and N&W at Lima, Ohio - Date approximate 01/1976.
6106 Built at Swindon in May 1931, and withdrawn from Oxford depot in December 1965. It was purchased in working order by a Great Western Society member, being sent to the small depot temporarily established by the Great Western Society in the old Taplow goods shed.
There it was steamed on high days and holidays until able to come to Didcot in October 1967.
It has featured in several films including ‘The Bliss of Mrs Blossom’ when, painted in psychedelic colours, it operated in a contrived snowstorm at Taplow, to the consternation of surprised main-line drivers.
LMS 4-6-0 Royal Scot class No 6108 'Seaforth Highlander' in original condition with the Up Royal Scot train on 23rd June 1928. Built by the North British Locomotive in September 1927 No 6108 was rebuilt with the new 2A standard tapered boiler by British Railways in May 1948 and remained in service until January 1963 when it was withdrawn from Carlisle Upperby shed for scrapping at Crewe Works in May 1963.
