please log in to view this image The Great Depression saw a reduction in NSWGR rail traffic and 5132 was withdrawn in 1931. It was one of 88 redundant steam locomotives used to provide dead weight during the load testing of the Sydney Harbour Bridge prior to the bridge opening in 1932. 5132 was condemned in September 1939 and earmarked for scrapping, however it received a reprieve and was rebuilt to superheated specification and returned to traffic in September 1942, going on to become one of the last NSWGR steam locomotives in service when withdrawn from Port Waratah depot in December 1972 with 1,877,246km of accumulated travel.

please log in to view this image British Railways Sulzer Type 2 Bo-Bo D5137 is seen at the head of a Rugby via Marton to Southam cement works freight service on 21st June 1966. The wagons are primarily filled with coal slack and because the train has to reverse at Marton Junction, a brake van has been provided at each end. The Derby built Sulzer Type 2 Bo-Bo design later became classified as BR's Class 24 type of diesel locomotives

please log in to view this image GWR 2-6-2T No 5140, a class 51xx 'Large Prairie' locomotive, is seen on one of Tyseley shed's stabling roads with the coaling stage in the background circa 1939. Initially built at Swindon works in March 1906 as No 3140 it was later rebuilt by Swindon works and remained in service until July 1953 when it was withdrawn from Taunton shed to scrapped circa 1953 by Swindon works.
