The virtual tape server (VTS) system (not pictured) in an ATLDS combines the random access and high performance characteristics of DASD with outboard hierarchical storage management and virtual tape devices and virtual tape volumes, providing significant reductions in the number of physical cartridges, devices, and automated libraries needed to store customer data.

The key concepts of this system are as follows:

• Emulating 3490-type tape devices (virtual devices)
• Emulating 3490-type tape volumes (virtual volumes)

German submarine U-3503 was a Type XXI U-boat (one of the "Elektroboote") of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine, built for service in World War II.
She was ordered on 6 November 1943, and was laid down on 17 June 1944 at F Schichau GmbH, Danzig, as yard number 1648.
She was launched on 27 July 1944, and commissioned under the command of Oberleutnant zur See Hugo Deiring, on 9 September 1944.

U-3503 was scuttled on 8 May 1945, west of Göteborg, Sweden, in the Kattegat, as part of Operation Regenbogen.
The wreck was raised in 1946 and broken up.

The IBM 3505 is a reader for 80-column punched cards.
It can read cards punched in EBCDIC or column binary at up to 1200 cards per minute (CPM).
The IBM 3525 is a multi-function punched card device, capable of reading, punching, and printing on punched cards.
The 3505 contains an integrated control unit that attaches to a System/370 byte multiplexer, selector, or block multiplexer channel.
An optional feature of the 3505 allows the control unit to also control a 3525, although the two are separately-addressed devices

The 3505/3525 units attach to a System/370 Model 135 and up, or to a System/360 Model 195

The 3505 and 3725 were developed at the IBM General Systems Division in Rochester, Minnesota in 1971
