Man I just love sport. It's fantastic seeing the England-Australia rivalry once again erupt on the velodrome. I suppose most of us don't realise just how fit these people are. Take a look at Anna Meares in training.

I'm one of the Clydesiders! In Accreditation this time (the area that produces those big passes). We had the Aussie lawnbowlers in last week.
 
Sir Chris Hoy denied access to The Sir Chris Hoy velodrome until he produced ID. Hope that wasn't you Janabelle.
Special mention for the triathletes, particularly the male and female Kenyan debutants who both got fished out of the water after being lapped in the swim. Vincent Onyango thought he was harshly treated as he reckoned he had a 30 minute 10k run in his locker. I don't doubt that but opting for the breaststroke on the swim is never gonna work.
 
Nope not me that would be the security team who denied entry. Just reminds people that you need to carry your accreditation pass everywhere cos you won't get in otherwise

The man himself said last night that it was a nothing story. His security pass was the wrong way around and the woman, who presumably was checking in hundreds of people, asked him to turn it around. Unfortunately there was a BBC journalist behind him who chose to make it more than it actually was.

I used to do stewarding at Lords and Geoffrey Boycott wanted to wander up to one of the members areas. An old boy from the MCC told him he couldn't go up without a pass. "Ah now come on - you really don't need to ask me for my pass do you? you know who i am for crying out loud" muttered Geoff. "I certainly do" came the reply "but i'm afraid you'll have to follow the same rules as everybody else Mr Illingworth". Credit to Boycott for pissing himself laughing rather than thumping the bloke.
 
The best ‘do you know who I am’ story has to be the one related to old boy Barrington Hills. The story goes that one year at the ‘Breeders Cup’ a filly security guard, who was as wide as she was tall, prevented him access to the racecourse because he didn’t have the proper pass/accreditation. ‘Do you know who I am’, he thundered, ‘I’m the famous English racehorse trainer, Barry Hills.’

After disdainfully looking him up and down for several seconds, said filly responded, ‘Honey, I don’t care if you’re Beverly Hills. You’re not coming in here without the correct paperwork.’
 
The Sir Chris Hoy velodrome has seen some brilliant racing. We get to see some of the very best in the world do their thing. Among those is the World Para Sprint B2 Tandem Champion Neil Fachie, who this time out teamed with the man mountain Craig MacLean. In an amazingly exciting race off against the Australians, they took the gold with a sensation final burst. The crowds there are fantastic. The roar that goes up when the sprinters hit top speed with about two hundred metre to go is brilliant. Big pat on the back to the Scots.
 
Isn't the commonwealth games a bit like a serial house burglar after seeing the error of his ways getting all his victims together for a kick around..... and them agreeing.

And it's what we should do in the footy ..... ressurect the Home Nations Championship but call it the World Cup :D
 
Ah Blue, Blue, Blue, it shocks me to read such comments from a learned man such as your good self. To equate the Commonwealth Games with park type football is akin to comparing Frankel with a cart horse. Sure a few roughies manage to slip in under the radar, but there have been some world class performances in Glasgow. The true test of just how great these games have been can be measured by my tv viewing habits. Did I watch a single game of the World Cup? Nope. Have I watched 10 hours per day of the Comm games? **** yeah. Now some are going to say "What does one bony bastard in the arse end of the globe know about sport?" Well I know enough to know enough. And the enough I know is known by those in the know, and they know that my known is enough.

Well 8 shifts down and 2 to go. In Accreditation today we had John Regis (member of the 1991 4x400m world champions team) - an absolute gent and a great laugh

The Commonwealth games are ****e, waste of time and pointless just gives the average competitors a chance who aren't good enough for the worlds or olympics

Can't agree with that at all Smokey. The medals are definitely easier to win than Olympics and World Champs but they provide a great stepping stone for young athletes to get acclimatised to competing and racing. On the track if you're competing against Kenyans in the middle and distance events there are no easy medals. If we get rid of all sport that isn't top end then there will be very little horse racing or football to keep us occupied.
