Just a thought, but I was wondering how many people call our ground 'The Circle.'

Many people are stating that they would not like the Allam's to change our name to Hull Tigers as it breaks with our tradition and history. (I know there are other reasons and opinions and understand these.)

However I can not recall as much as a fuss been made when we moved from Boothferry Park to the KC Stadium. We knew a move to the stadium would be for the good of the club, would bring in extra revenue, attract better players and boost attendance figures, and we were coming back home to 'The Circle', where we had played many years before, however due to sponsorship the stadium was to be called the 'KC.' We also knew that we would possibly fall out of the football league pretty quickly if things did not change, something none of us wanted.

I see a very similar thing with re-naming our club 'Hull Tigers.' For those that remember us playing at 'The Circle' may well still call our stadium this, but for the majority we are happy to call it the 'KC.' Just like the renaming of our club, if it happens we will still call ourselves Hull City, but new fans may well call us Hull Tigers. But we also know that there is a possibility like the naming of our stadium to bring in extra revenue and attract better players. There are exciting times ahead at Hull City, we do not know what the future will bring, but we do know that there are potential sponsors out there willing to invest in Hull City. We can be the first team to do this, and I believe other clubs of a similar size to us may follow suit. It may work, it may not but que sera sera, whatever will be, will be, we're going to Wembley!! (And we must not forget that it is our current management team that has got us there) Let's support the team.

Also, you can't compare a stadium left to decay, with a club in arguably its best ever position. The move from Bothferry Park was clearly the correct decision and the benefits could clearly be seen.
 
Its an interesting thought, you could argue that stadiums aren't as precious as the clubs name... but look at the fuss Liverpool fans kicked up when there was talk of moving down the road from Anfield. You could also argue that having moved from to the KC and not knowing it as anything else, its name to supporters is 'The KC'. I wonder what would happen if they got taken over by BT and they wanted to call it 'The BT stadium' - would we be happy with that? Also, Arsenal fans are happy to call their stadium 'The Emirates'.

Funny thing football supporters - goes to prove its not really a business in the orthodox sense of the word.

But the real issues I'm starting to have on this board, other than the constant Hull Tigers debate taking over every thread despite apparently having its own thread:
Supporters on here saying they don't want to change the name, happy to help to bring in other finance but they have a categorical hatred for 'plastics' - the term meaning anyone from Liverpool supporters watching Hull City, to people who buy a Hull City V Opposition half and half scarf as a memento, to fans wearing onesies, to anyone who sits in the West Stand and brings a flask. Another thread complained about people in their 20s watching with family... HEAVEN FORBID!!!

Okay, seeing a 50 year old guy in a tiger onesie is weird but he spent his money to watch the team and is enjoying himself. Those coming to 'experience' the day... a certain percentage may well become life time supporters, regardless, they still spent their money. And for many people, watching the footy with their dad may be a tradition that has been going on more years than certain forum members have been following city.

I hope certain members will consider this before they complain about every supporter that does not fit their own vision of a HCAFC supporter but insist someone should stump on the money for their football club.

For the sake of transparency, I'm a west stand season ticket holder (the views better) and anti-name change.
 
It was sad to see the old cricket ground go, I remember seeing Yorkshire play there several times in the past.

Any name would have been better than just naming it after a business and then covering that by calling it by the abbreviation.

Well said and to be honest by the end of your piece, I was beginning to think I'd written it, that's how closely I agree with all of your points.

I'm also a West Stand Season Ticket Holder (also for the view) and anti-name change but I wouldn't stop my support if it did. For the record I will be taking the only option left open to me by the intentionally slanted nature of the poll by voting NO to Hull Tigers.

We are "The Tigers" we don't need to make it part of our name!
 
Football Manager has always called it The Circle, for some reason. I'm guessing because KC wouldn't allow them to use the naming rights. And that's since the 2005 version at least.
 
I'd be delighted if our ground were named "The Circle", it's an ancient reference, it's where we started and it's non-business

There should be an information board at the KC showing where the old Anlaby Road Ground was situated and a map of the ground etc.
The lack of respect shown to the clubs history is appalling.
The memory of Boothferry Park will soon be forgotten too as the club seem disinterested in preserving it's memory.
 
I would love it if the KC was officially known as the Circle. My late dad was the captain of Hull Cricket club for a few years and played for the club on that ground for about 15-16 years. I have happy memories of it as a cricket ground and saw my dad play against an ex England select side including Fred Trueman to an absolutely packed ground. I would also like to see it called The Circle for the same reasons as Tigercity.

Are you an Allam employee?

We only played at the Circle for a year then we had our own ground next door (the remains are still there now) which was just called 'Anlaby Road' as the Circle was still in use for YCCC and Hull CC games and was a handsome cricket ground until well into the 70s. Used to enjoy JPL games there 40 overs a side in front of a boozy 6 or 7,000 crowd.

Pls give us info on these new potential sponsors.

Ehab Allam has now said the name-change dependent investment is possibly 5 years away and not immediate. Nick Thompson said there were no name change dependent sponsors in the wings.


Steve Bruce and the players have got us to Wembley.

Thousands of us and our ancestors have kept the club alive for several decades when wealthy Asians or the Allam family did not even know of our existence.

They are motivated by profit, we are motivated by passion for the club.

Which ones do you trust?
 
There's no evidence to suggest changing the name will make money despite both Allams being directly asked several times to demonstrate why we should believe it.

You'd have to be very gullible to believe there's any chance changing the name would make money. It's been said all along that it won't and the FA have confirmed it won't having seen the full proposal.

Why not focus now on promoting the club (with existing name) to a global audience via Wembley next month?

The best shop window the club (and city) will ever have.

My Grandad played against Ray Illingworth once and was captain of Beverley Amateurs in the 50s & 60s..

Getting to the final would be the biggest shop window, IF it happens hopefully the owner won't be too embarrassing in front of the world's press. Of course one game to get there yet.
