The weather in Texas could be 20F with snow/ice, 70F and sunny, or anything in between. Sometimes we get those extremes on subsequent days. Most likely 40F and partially cloudy!
Gooseberry pie is a long tradition from my mother's side of the family, folk of German descent who settled in central Missouri. That the largest town in that area is called Hermann should tell you a lot! Anyway, gooseberries grow wild in that part of the country making gooseberry pie a staple.
Have you been in the States long enough to have tried authentic Tennessee moonshine?
Try some of this if you can find it, not cheap but pure liquid sex, mixing it comes with a punishment of death.

A mate of mine once asked his woman to get him a bottle of 'rumtiddllyumpumpumpum' from the beer off and she actually went and asked it!
"Beer off," I don't think I've heard or seen that term outside of Hull and this is probably the frst time I've seen it in forty odd years. I remember, as a kid, there was a beer off on Chomley Street close to Constable Street and kids would go and get jugs of draught beer for their dads and cigarettes, too. I recall they had sherry on draught, as well. Can you imagine an eight year old walking home with a couple of pints in a jug and carrying a pack of Woodies or Park Drive in these enlightened times?
The term beer off was to be heard around our way in the East Riding. Can't recall a time when an 8 year old, I was 8 in 1958, would be served with beer and ***s though.
We're the same age and I recall kids getting beer and cigs for their dads. There was a shop on the corner of St. Mathews St and Queens Gate St that sold single cigarettes to children. When I was about six or seven, I bought one cig and a penny box of matches and tried smoking down a back alley. For some reason, when I blew down the cig, the match kept going out. Never got it lit so I went home for dinner (lunch) and after when my mam was washing my hands, I said, "Don't look in my pocket." Of course she did and found the cig. My dad then went to the shop and kindly offered to rearrange the owner's face if he heard of him selling any more cigs to children.
We didn't have a local off licence until I was 11. Couldn't get served there even when older as I went to school,with the son of the woman who worked there and in the pub it was attached to. Got cigarettes from about age 11 or 12 (looking back wish I couldn't have, took forty years to kick the habit) though there was always are you 16 ritual.
I use the berries that are green,
A red berry pie I've never seen.
If you can find them fresh, you're the man,
but I too must buy them in a can.

Yes, I would guess that living here for 30 years would be long enough, but I've never tried it. I'm a confirmed wino; I never touch spirits, and only rarely beer.
