He had a good record in League 1 and 2, but at Championship level he lasted something like 7 games before Yeovil transfer listed him. If we were looking at Will Grigg then Madden would be an obvious alternative. At least Wells has made the step up from League 1 well.
Was there more to him leaving Yeovil than the fact he hadn't made the step up after 7 games

Just read a Fergie autobiography and he says he took advice from Bruce and Pallister about Cantona. Brucie should have a word with Dawson and Davies, who gave them the most trouble the season just gone. Might throw up a surprise.
Dawson was ****ting himself up against Forestieri so that's an easy one

I like foristietri so he'd do for me, we'd then still need a lambert style forward.
I'm not sure we'd get deeney
As a punt rather than wells what about madden?
Lambert or Forestieri for me too, maybe we could get both of them in

Wells is valued at around £7.5m

No thanks.

We were apparently looking at wells start of last season but obviously didn't pursue it for whatever reasons

Can we get Charlie Austin?

Has he played much for Southampton?

His attitude was questioned, but he was transfer listed in mid November, so they'd actually played more. He didn't score a single goal in his season back there I don't think.

That would be a great signing, not sure if wages would be a factor, would love to see him and Hernandez together (Bruce allowing)

We should have signed Deeney in 08, Wilson in 14 & Gray last season!
Ok take Gray out, but it's the same story in each case, we should have signed the best available at the time.
It's not as though they weren't being talked about.
I'd go for Martin & Lambert, he could be our JVoH, but better.
Lower leagues I'd take a punt on Winnal from Barnsley & also Houriane their midfielder too!

Can't remember where I heard it, so apologies if it's bollocks, but I'm sure it was the same when they bought Dwight Yorke too. As you say our defence are surely the best placed to highlight the best Championship strikers having played against them all season

I don't think they'll be saying Gray ironically!

Deeney is a good shout, Remy would be a great shout.

How about Foristieri

Anyone think we should go for Shelvey?

First 3 mentioned all good, but Shelvey not for me, something wrong there with him, Swansea got rid and face doesn't fit at Newcastle for some reason.

I think we need quality over quantity. We have all been saying over the last few years that we need a proven goal scorer who knows where the onion bag is. Goals win matches. If that means spending big on a proven striker, our
achelies heel, then so be it, rather than "Johnny Foreigner" who needs time to get to grips with the English game, needs time to settle and climatise, and can't speak to his team mates. Speaking of which, anyone know what has happened to Diamonde, the invisible man? I thought he was "good to go" in that other than his injury, he would be good for the English game and used to the cold climate, but seems to be nowhere to be seen.

So, other than those mentioned above, Nahki Wells, a good shout as support striker, someone I thought we should have had a few years ago.

I would love to see Deeney join us but it will never happen, he loves London (and Watford) if he goes anywhere it will be Palace or West ham.

Crouch for a lead the line striker would be a decent shout, as would Lamberf ( both reasonably cheap, but wages could be an issue).
I would also like us to bring on Powell, Townsend (Daws, Hudd and Livermore could easily swing it with glowing reference s for the club), also Naismith as previously mentioned would also be good.

these would give us decent attacking options for 4-2-31 or 5-3-2.

We dont look overly bad on GK front, can afford to take a punt on an overseas CB, lb could be a loan (several big clubs have additional lb's), and we could pick up Cm for a reasonable fee, allowing us to spend more in attacking options

Eder. He's 29 and after one last move to really establish himself and would be the perfect foil for Abel. He's of Brazilian descent but qualifies to play for Italy so although one is Spanish speaking and the other Portuguese, presumably they could converse in italian. £8m, £40k a week for 3 years and if they played together as a 2 he'd keep us up.
