I hear you and frankly, and disappointngly, I am not surprised by your experience in Florida.

For me, Florida is probably the least tolerant of all the US states - much worse than those considered to be "the South" and the bastion of racism.

I, and many others, would be very happy if Florida (and Texas) were to no longer be part of this country.

If I appeared to be "lecturing us on racism & general political correctnes," then I genuinely apologize. Let's hope I did not even come close to how the English castigated the racist South African National Party government for perfecting the black discrimination that the English created in South Africa when they ruled there.

Oops! You wouldn't be calling me english now, would you now, Jonny? <yikes> You blimmin' wetbacks are always getting it wrong! lol. I'd love to blame the english for that type of attitude, but we Scots have an embarrassing legacy too. It was one of my countrymen who founded the KKK, sadly. There will always be bigots in every country, it's just that it was the last thing I expected to find in 'the land of the free'. Quite a shock, actually. And oddly enough, not one of the contributors came from Florida! Mostly the eastern seaboard. And proud to be racist too. Huge shock to the system, I can assure you. I have to admit that I went on the attack, using wha I thought to be a reasoned argument. Blow me! Next thing I knew they were coming out of the woodwork having a go at me, mainly because I suggested that freedom of speech was not supposed to be a breding ground for barefaced racism. They made it perfectly clear that they were happy to take our money, but other than that, didn't want to know us. I'd love to say that it was just a few, but I can't. Very educational, but a lesson I'd rather have missed.

Final footnote on South Africa: the english may well have introduced the apartheid setup, but they were not the first in history to do so. I also note that the US warmly embraced the apartheid movement in the deep south. The brits would never have tolerated this in their own backyard.

No one has mentioned the Indians who were treated like crap by the new Americans......<ok>

Definitley not, I much prefer the English!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

<laugh>

Just kidding, of course.

The brits would never have tolerated this in their own backyard.

I will leave that issue to our Irish friends to address. I am sure they know their story better than I do.

So the Scots have always been happy being ruled by the English then....? <whistle>

<cheers>
