For me, the most unbearable aspect of the current situation is how celebrities, betting accounts, the 'footyhumour' school and of course the twitter masses are apparently obliged to shed an endless and highly derivative load of 'banter' all over social media. This beloved 'banter' is as unoriginal as it is interminable. Its presence has been lemon juice in a wound, NOT for its acerbity (far from it), but its sheer lack of originality. Every 'Shall I bring my boots? LOL!', 'have you even got any players left? LOL!', and especially 'Liverpool have made a bid for the (pitch/goalposts/tea lady/mascot)! LOL!' quip weakens me far more than official news of players actually leaving. David Schneider's hackneyed quip about us using a '1-0-0-1' formation this season wound me up more than the news that Chambers was leaving. However, I think this poisonous movement peaked at 7:48 PM this evening when Gary Lineker decided to unlock his phone and tweet: 'They've changed the lyrics at St Mary's: When the saints go marching out!'. It's **** and it needs to stop.
