That rather ignores the fact that Pattinson (70 wickets at 26, plus a helpful batting average of 28) was ruled out before the series. They have four excellent pace bowlers, so three being fit isn't that lucky.

Chad Sayers who can't get a look in, has the best figures in our local state league, the Sheffield shield and has had for the last 2 years. Much better than Pattinson

We have been relatively poor in the test arena for the last 12 to 18 months, our attack is very predictable and of a muchness, we have very little variation. Our top 5/6 having glaring problems, we have not replaced Graham Swann since he retired and have a huge gap missing there, Cook has been poor since losing the captaincy, we do not have a dependable no.3 to speak of, and it seems if Root has a bad series we will always struggle against the better teams. In the last 18 months we are currently ranked just above Bangladesh and The West Indies, which shows for a cricket nation how far we have dropped.

His 17 tests were over 6 years, so I still think them having 3 of the 4 bowlers remaining fit and unchanged was. Having said that they all missed the recent Asia tour to prepare for the Ashes. Not suggesting it would have made much difference to the result but consider as well as Stokes, we did have Wood, Toby, Finn and now Overton injured.

Australia 3-244. Close of 1st days play.
Warner out for 103.
Smith Not out , to continue bating tomorrow 65 runs.
S.Marsh also Not Out 31 runs.

These 2 above continue batting for the majority of 3 sessions on day 2 , both could make Centuries as well as in the Perth test.

That'll be a mammoth 1st Innings lead. Hopefully.

Cmon Aussie Cmon. Cmon.
