I turn over to watch the start of the ladies final at Wimbledon, have a quick look back and the aussies are 5 down! Come on England!
The Aussies will no doubt come back very hard at Lord's. Nevertheless that it is a great start to the series from England.
Last few Ashes series it seems to have been very one sided, one team dominating, first us more recently them. I certainly wasn't expecting as win for England here, you would expect the Aussies to get better as they get more used to English pitches (the downside of the modern tour, no time to acclimatise with loads of provincial games), but I think the series will hinge on our bowling and their batting, unless Johnson really gets his eye in.
Top performance from England. The Aussies have been hyped up, but I fancy our bowling attack in English conditions and with a long, attacking batting line up including the peerless Root, I don't see them outscoring us either.
Congratulations are in order to England on a convincing win over us Aussies. I'm sure we'll bounce back and make a go of it in the next test match. Well done to you.
Good man Aus. .. sets the series up nicely. ...on to Lords....shows that the new approach is working and how poor England were previously and that maybe the Aussies are beatable afterall. ...
Good win England.. That dropped catch by Haddin when Root was 0 killed us. But your bowlers were brilliant and while I think our bowlers did well the batting will need a shakeup with Watson out and Marsh to come in. I would also like to move Smith from 3 to give him a bit of protection but not sure who would go there. Anyway, it sets the series up well and onto Lords where we have a great record - I just hope it continues..
To be fair, the poor bloke who made that prediction wasn't in possession of a crystal ball. As you've stated, that was made under the stewardship of Moores who was a control freak. He made the English players suffer from paralysis from analysis as he breathed down the player's necks with a clipboard in tow consisting of all kinds of facts and figures. The credit here must go to Paul Fabrace, he was the interim coach who suggested that England might benefit from a new bolder expressive style on the cricket field. This attitude to the modern game is what we're now witnessing. Bayliss, the uncomplicated Australian has also embraced this. He was an estate agent four years ago. He has come in as the England manager and embraced the Fabrace 'New Spirit' of cricket and manages from a far. He realised the effect from the vibrant New Zealand series in all forms of the game and has decided to let the players go out and express themselves. Regardless of the situation that they currently find themselves in. The third innings of this test is a fine example of this. Apparently in his interview for the job... Bayliss said, ''Make my 400,000 a year Aus Dollars into 400,000 English Pounds and I'm yours. That's as uncomplicated as it gets. Having said that, this is only the first test. Things will change. The Aussies won't underestimate the English again. This is going to get tasty.
Great result and excellent performance from England, on what looked on day 1 to be a really flat track. As has already been stated it's only one of the five tests and we now have a wounded animal in our midst, should get interesting.
Bayliss, Fabrace and Strous deserve immense credit. Cook also seems to have responded by being a much more positive and proactive captain. Long way to go though and these Aussies will come back hard and snarling!
Seems a few on here are expecting the Aussies to bounce back at Lord's, but I can't see it. I expect England to go 2-0 up. It's looking like Starc is crocked, and Johnson in this country (particularly at Lord's) is nothing like the threat he is at home. I reckon that makes our bowling attack the stronger. The strength in depth of our batting line-up makes us superior in that department too in my opinion. Dad's army will be feeling the pressure - they've got no chance!
I think our Aussies always have a chance because we have an attacking approach to life in general so l wouldn't write them off too soon. Yes, our bowling attack is spreading thin but we'll make a fist of it.
