If I've read reports correctly Rankin went off injured, came back on, bowled one ball and then went off injured again? Farcical.

Assuming that's correct I can only conclude it really is 1995 again. I look forward to seeing Devon Malcolm and Martin McCague open the bowling in the ODIs.

Just listening to the TMS replay , they are saying that's what happened ( Ref Rankin ) .

OUCH!- Aus 240-6
You're not going to believe this. Rankin has bowled one ball and is holding that left hamstring again. The physio is on, there's a conflab between bowler, captain and the umpire. Rankin is heading off again. You can't help but feel for him. He's waited all tour to make his Test debut and he's gone in the fetlock.

Ben Stokes saying Rankin had cramp and will be fine .

Incredibly disappointed by Carberry. It was his chance to prove himself, and he goes for a duck. Good day with the ball from England, although Australia's total is very competitive. We need a good day with the bat later.

Unless Carberry gets a century in the 2nd innings it will be the end of his test career.

Haddin's counter attacking and Johnson's bowling have been the telling factors.

Odd decision to play Carberry in front of Root - get the feeling they were protecting Root for the future?

Stokes about the only good thing to come out of this tour

Yeah I think there's an element of protecting Root. In the last game he looked a bit all over the place for the first time in his short Test career and moving him up to open again just wouldn't be fair. They obviously wanted to play Ballance as well and if they've decided Root shouldn't open (for now) one of KP, Bell and Root had to go. To be fair, Carberry is England's second highest scorer in the series.

What a first over from Harris! Anderson doesn't look as though he'll last long.
