As I understand it the existing member States have to vote unanimously to allow a new one in. Call me naive but I can see a possible stumbling block or two for our friends in Ankara...

Turkey under Sultan Erdoğan trying to get into the EU. It would be funny if it wasn't such a dangerous possibility. The fact Article 301 in Turkish law makes it illegal to insult or criticise the Turkey as a nation or the Turkish government just proves how authoritarian the place is. Not to mention Erdoğan's son buys oil from Islamic State and sells it to the Far East.
There's as much chance if Turkey joining the EU as there is of Sepp Blatter becoming the next pope.
