I saved an absolute fortune on a Sky contract - I've never ever had one. Life is far too precious to waste time sat in front of the bloody telly watching crap I'll keep that miserable little pleasure for the time when my mind has gone and my legs no longer work. In the meantime I'll watch the occasional televised Saints game at my local while enjoying a drop of scotch with a splash of water.

I'm with you, Godders. I manage about 40 minutes of TV a day and even then I'm normally ready to switch it off after 30. My father-in-law has Sky and it has never appeared to me to offer any kind of value for money. However, the thing that really amazes me is why anyone would spend a single penny on a TV station that then shows adverts as well. It genuinely bemuses me that people accept that.

You do well godders, I don't think I could live without it now.

I'm not addicted to it but I do love sport and with multiroom on a wet bank holiday like today, Meant whilst the Mrs was watching some dire celeb type programme I could slip off and watch an enthralling T20 and see England beat the aussies again. Well worth the subscription.

De Gea's transfer gone to Real Madrid. How did United end up losing him.

I can say with a cynical 99% probability that whatever's been said it was the money. It feels like it always is these days.

An honourable exception was John Brayford to Sheffield United for a pay cut in the January window because he loved being there on loan so much. He's treated across Sheffield (well, half of it) as a footballing God for that act. Someone who understands the real importance of money versus passion.

Whereas I watched the same match on my Smart TV via the streaming site I subscribe to for £5.99 per month. <whistle>

Utd have been mugged off.

I liked Navas at the World Cup and during that league season, but he struggled at Real. How old is he?

£30m for a goalkeeper is decent, but not a great deal when you consider his age and potential career. Though I think his size might restrict the longevity of his career.

That's an odd one.

Concerned would be the wrong word, but there is a potential for things to go sour at Stoke. Hughes is dropping some admittedly older, but solid PL performers for talented yet incredibly inconsistent players.

I wonder if Hughes might go too far down the flair road

Danny Murphy (I know he's not the font of all knowledge) said last week in an interview that when players hand in a transfer request they waive any right to bonuses or extras on the contract.

Whilst I'm sure he's handsomely rewarded anyway, I'm sure he's accrued a fair few added extras, and for him to turn his back on that would imply he's had enough of the way things are happening up there.
