Toby wasn't always going nor was Clyne going by what some of the more ITK people said. Morgan was inevitable - no one can deny that but there was a chance the other two were going to stay.
Tom; what l now write is supposition, but from what l read of Morgan's quotes, had we have held 4th place and got that CL spot; might he have stayed too? l guess the question is rhetorical and what has passed has passed, but l will always wonder what might have been.

I'm not going to disagree with you but you could define your version of 'fine'.
I want an improvement on last season.
Clasie is a upgrade. If we bring in one more DM we will have a stronger midfield (on paper) then last season. We also have Gape that will get the odd game here and there.

No he would have still gone.

I am with Romsey, I would feel happier with another DM/CM after last seasons experience of injuries, suspensions and tiredness.
The only reason why our better players generally leave is because we can't pay them to the same levels as the clubs above and around us and not because we fell away in league/cup form

We all want one more DM/CM, Romsey wants one of each. Which I feel is too many.

I would actually go as far as to say that had Saints had achieved the 'something special' that Morgan continued to talk about during the season then his leaving may not have been inevitable.
Saints were undone by a lack of in-depth quality, and maybe an overall lack of quality, but being merely a few points from achieving a top 4 position, I might concede that second part as being a little damning. On best form we were able to despatch the teams at mid-table or below with no little aplomb. When things got tight those same teams became our undoing, as did our closest rivals. We actually did quite well against the top 4.

well they clearly didn't know the truth as last time I checked they're not still here.

people may think they know what's going on and I'm sure the club thought they would stay with what they were being told, but ultimately we got a little played, again

Every one has their own opinions. I may disagree with you but I am not going not going to act a dick about it. If we do sign 2 cms then I won't complain.
Feel the same way Beefy - sometimes people take things too literal - if it were a chat over a pint it comes over so differently; 'curse of the internet'.

does anyone really think clyne, Morgan et all would really be here if we got champions league?

I don't even if we had. The reality is if we did get champions league it was likely to be for a single year and they have moved for much more money than we could have offered...
As I wrote earlier; anything l write would be supposition; I am not in the know and as l have written above; its all past us now. We look ahead and, my view, is we need more depth to ensure we do not fall away as we have the past two years. The debate we are having really hinges is on the number of midfielders we need.

One more DM/CM plus an AM works for me; would allow us to have more cover at CM simply because there'd be fewer instances where Davis/JWP are playing in the advanced midfield role.
Now you are complicating the discussion (smiles- tablet does not like expressions for some reason??). Schad, you are moving the discussion up the pitch!!!!

Bedtime guys; am 3 hours ahead of the UK and Sunday is the start of the working week in the Middle East. Have a peaceful and happy Sunday. Thanks for the conversations.

It's why I would prefer us buying Praet.

Personally, at this point I consider everything to justify buying Praet. Need depth? Buy Praet. CB is thin? Really should buy Praet, then. It's a Saturday? All the more reason we should be signing Praet.
