Oh i see. Well i doubt that some misbehaviour as a young lad that he wasnt charged for makes him that bad that Saints wouldnt sign him if they deemed him good enough to suit their purpose.
Well as someone else said, Elia and Osvaldo did not work out too well. We'll have to see. Wasn't there a story way back under Rupert's days that we pulled out of a deal for Drogba (before Chelsea) because his wife or girlfriend did not measure up to our standards.....?

I heard that The Board wouldn't spend the money on him... Terry Cooper said this when he retired as Chief European scout. He called him The One That Got Away.

The version I heard was that both he and Rosicky were training under invitation from Strachan and that when Lowe said no to signing them, Strachan suddenly developed a hankering for a sabbatical....

EDIT: I should add that this was apparently over the Christmas period 2002 where we sat rather smugly in 4th place.

Also: that would've been six months after Ajax tried and failed to convince Zlatan Ibrahimovic to sign with Saints. Decent little strike partnership that would've been.

British premium apparent here. Played well last season and hull were ok defensively

I know it's been done on this forum ad nausea, but just shows how much of a bargain Toby was.

£10m for Chester, even though his contract is in it's final year? Solid enough CB but with rather poor distribution, overall debatable improvement on Maya and Gardos.

At this stage, are we looking for improvement or back-up? £10m would be a lot for a bench/cup player.

I thought it was Drogba who pulled out not us. He was 16 or something. Great scouting, just didn't work out.

I mentioned earlier that when Terry Cooper retired he said it was the club not paying the money. Terry called him the one that got away.

I think we are looking for a CB to replace Toby first and foremost. If Ron Vlaar wasn't injured, this injury to Gardos would have hd has signing him yesterday, I reckon.
