Les Reed is an incredible DoF.

Evans is a good Centre Back. A player that is not quite good enough for a title winning side is easily good enough for Saints. I guess we will all have to agree to disagree
Oh let me be clear, I wouldn't be against signing him (wages permitting) I just wouldn't be overly excited either.

I would. I think it would be a better signing than Van Dijk. He is proven in the league for one.

Last summer you were claiming him abysmal and a joke! Good to see you've come around. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I said that I thought he was taking a gamble and that it could bite us on the back side, but I was wrong. What difference does that make to this thread?

Sky say

NEW BOYS EYE DJURICIC
The Daily Mirror say Premier League new boys Bournemouth and Norwich are both keen on a move for Benfica's Filip Djuricic.
The Serbian midfielder, 23, spent time on-loan with Southampton last season

Can't seem to find the Mirror article though.

I was joking about Evans, don't think he would be too bad but not our sort of signing at all. He was great a couple of years ago though and massively under rated, but his form has dropped a lot since then.

The comment about Fergie isn't specifically true either imo. Saw something recently that the midfield when they beat Arsenal 8-2 was Nani, Anderson, Cleverly and Young. Looking at those players it seems Fergie was really some kind of miracle worker in terms of getting the best out of perhaps not particularly great players.

Not even Fergie could do anything with Bebe.

Agree with those above saying Evans would be a good signing. Can reach a very high level when playing consistently and Fonte would bring the best out of him. Also the comment above about Maya being much better than him playing out from the back...what on earth are you smoking?! You musn't have had a season ticket for the last 3 years. How many times does he carelessly give it away?! Or panic and just misplace an aimless pass. Evans is controlled on the ball and very much a ball player.

Not smoking anything interesting at the moment, just stating my opinion. I had a season ticket from 2009 onwards however I didn't renew my season ticket last season due to work commitments, so I guess what you're saying is only season ticket holders can have an opinion? <doh> I've been there for 2 of Yoshida's seasons with us, and watched last season's games either via streams or at St Marys when I could get a ticket so have a fairly good idea of Yoshida's ability. He has improved hugely in the last year in all areas of his game, and as I said, in my opinion he is a better option that Evans as he is established in the side and won't cost the earth in wages. Evans is certainly not an upgrade on Yoshida

What homegrown United reject that has had spells as a regular in the United first team and then been sold has ever gone on to be more than average?

Genuine question.

Totally agree Yoshi is a better player than Evans.

Good point. I can only think of Darren Fletcher, in recent years.
On the subject of Yoshida; he has improved substantially since his transfer to SFC. Nothing dramatic, just gradual increments of improvement. And now he's a very reliable CB, who is able to come in, at short notice, or as a substitute, and give a good performance. I have no real concerns with Maya, though we do need a couple of quality CBs. One at a bare minimum.

Yes typical of the Japanese to use a Kaizen approach to personal improvement!
