You don't play consistently under fergie and in champions leagues unless you can play a bit.
I admit he's not world class, but is he a step up on Yoshida.. Possibly. (Although yoshida seems to be improving and improving)
 
I was joking about Evans, don't think he would be too bad but not our sort of signing at all. He was great a couple of years ago though and massively under rated, but his form has dropped a lot since then.

The comment about Fergie isn't specifically true either imo. Saw something recently that the midfield when they beat Arsenal 8-2 was Nani, Anderson, Cleverly and Young. Looking at those players it seems Fergie was really some kind of miracle worker in terms of getting the best out of perhaps not particularly great players.

Eric Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, Bebe, William Prunier off the top of my head (could add Veron in there but he is one of my favourite ever players so can't do that)
 
I'm not doubting that Fergie made mistakes in the transfer window, but Evans has been a solid performer for them, and played week-in, week-out in for nearly a full season when they won the title.
I think he is very underrated, and put next to Fonte and playing every week, he is still young enough to improve even more.

I feel pretty confident that we can and will do better than Evans. But, stranger things have happened I guess!
 
Agree with those above saying Evans would be a good signing. Can reach a very high level when playing consistently and Fonte would bring the best out of him. Also the comment above about Maya being much better than him playing out from the back...what on earth are you smoking?! You musn't have had a season ticket for the last 3 years. How many times does he carelessly give it away?! Or panic and just misplace an aimless pass. Evans is controlled on the ball and very much a ball player.

Les Reed is an incredible DoF.

Evans is a good Centre Back. A player that is not quite good enough for a title winning side is easily good enough for Saints. I guess we will all have to agree to disagree
