Yeah it is a good model. Barca and Real have far too much at stake to risk playing any of their youth players unless they are truly exceptional so may aswell let them go out on sort of extended loans for a fee and then have the clause to buy them back if they turn out to be good enough for the level they require, it is pretty rare they actually take the option up to buy them. Only one I can think of in recent times is Carvajal who Madrid bought back

Didn't Barcelona exercise something similar for Fabregas? And Arsenal had a similar clause which they rejected first option on.
 
I don't like the way we're becoming some sort of official feeder club for Liverpool now. I'd like to stop selling them players from this point on, for a good few decades. It really is a pants reputation to be tarred with. Then again, who else's wallet bends over so willingly?
