According to reports in Portugal, Saints have now agreed a deal for Cedric and should sign him in the coming days when he returns from international duty.

If true then that would mean Clyne is almost certainly out the door as Cedric seems far too expensive and high profile to be a back up for him.

Seems a quality replacement so provided Saints can turn a bit of a profit as well i cant really complain.

We can't assume this - we need 2 RB's.

It says in the article that Cedric will be backup/competition with Clyne. We need 2 RB's anyway.

I still think we will sign another right back, but agree that Cedric is too high profile to not be a guarenteed starter.

Yes we need competition and I take the fact that it is a squad game and not just about the 11, but we aren't high profile enough to have 2 young internationals at high level countries competing for one position.

According to the Record article there was also interest from Barca, Benefica, Porto and Stoke. I can't imagine any of those clubs struggling to come up with the 3.5m to sign him so i'm assuming he would be moving here because of first team opportunity.

We may not lose Clyne but the continuous delay in him signing a new contract and Liverpool apparently being willing to up their bid for him doesn't inspire hope in me.

Clyne is as good as gone in my books. Regardless of him changing agents, it doesn't take 6 months to decide if he wants to stay or go. It's just a matter of us negotiating to get a good price for him, something which I'm sure we will do well.

As the Clyne saga drags on it appears he and his representatives have been playing us whilst waiting to see what options they have and how much more money they can squeeze out of Manure and Scousehampton in wage and signing on fees etc

Maybe Clyne has made his feeling clear to the club but SFC have told him to keep shtum. When players come out and say they want to leave i would have thought it would weaken out bargaining strength when it come to negotiations with interested parties.

Nah he has definitely given the club more then hope about staying. So if he goes he played for time.

Can anyone tell me why we could not have done the following (is it madness, have we not enough money? etc):
Bought early - Heaton, Trippier & Ings (OK maybe not Ings seeing as Liverpool set their sights so low) from Burnley and Austin from QPR, and Clasie/Krychowiak, with Juanmi and Cedric coming in later.
Then regardless of selling Morgan and/or Clyne we'd be in a great position (and they might be more willing to stay)
?

Then I will boo him on his return.
I politely applaud those he leave properly and will a bit of professionalism

Why? I really don't get this with Clyne. He's not mouthed off at all. He may want to go, and have received signals he can, so is waiting for the prospective clubs in question to do something concrete and that is acceptable to Saints (or not). It's not his fault they haven't sorted themselves out to move firmly yet, so he's waiting to see if they're going to or not. He basically wants to know what his options are before committing either way.

Sounds sensible if anything.
