If we have a deal in place and we want Djuricic, that is what we will pay. Can't renege on it...would damage our reputation when making similar agreements with other clubs. If we rate him...is 9 million a lot....doesn't sound it to me.

It's not reneging on a deal, IMO. Essentially Benfica has made us a formal offer to sell Djuricic for 9m. The obligation is on their end, not ours.

We have an option to purchase him at 9m, and we are free to decline that option. At which point there is no obligation for either party. We can say "We don't think 9m is good value for us, but we're happy to pay 6m." And Benfica can then say (and I suspect they would) "No way. 6m is not enough." And neither side should be mad.

It's like when we loaned Osvaldo to Juventus. If they had declined their 10m Euro right-to-buy and offered us 7m, I not only wouldn't have been mad at Juventus, I'd have been quite happy to sell at that price.

Ta...though we have set it high enough to frighten most, I suppose. At least it suggests that nothing is sorted.

I would say it's more than just a "willing if price is right" signal. It's really saying "He's for sale to highest bidder."

At least one team and probably more will pay 25m for Schneiderlin, because that price is quite fair. And why would a team bid 30m for Schneiderlin if we have already indicated we would sell for 25m, unless some other club offers that much? It's basically an auction now, with one bid already in at 25m.

My guess is that Schneiderlin has in all likelihood already talked to at least one team, and that team has bid 25m (or we are positive we can get it from them). If Schneiderlin is committed to this team (probably Arsenal), then he's leaving for 25m. We are just hoping he isn't that committed and maybe we can get two teams in a bidding war against each other.

If we accept he is going (and most have), 25 million will allow us to buy at least two good players selected by Ron and Les. We need to increase the squad if we are in the Europa and to maintain our league form (even if we aren't). Morgan is very valuable to us, but we aren't a one man team any more....we can withstand changes.

It all comes down to when Forster is back. There is a big difference between getting someone in as cover and for the whole season. If it's for the latter, we need to sign a top keeper of the same ilk as Forster...not an easy thing to do. Good keepers seem happy to be back ups at the top clubs.

If Forster is out for all or most of next season, I would go for Heaton from Burnley on a permanent contract because who knows whether the Big Man will fully recover or have a set back through his rehab etc. Just look at what happened to JRod
