Because he would improve our squad, as Cleverley would have done. Vilhena really isnt that good at this moment in time but is only 20 and is seen to have good potential. But as FLT says football is all about opinions, all valid in their own right (mine are just more valid than everyone elses :emoticon-0105-wink:)

Vilhena actually is a good player. He just hasn't been played enough so can't get into good form. He is only 20 and needs to be more consistent is all.

Aleix Vidal joining Barca for €10m, great signing for them. They want Cedric Soares as well. That basically means Alves is leaving.

Could we afford his wages if Clyne goes?

I thought it was pretty well know Alves is off; rumoured to United.

I agree, (apart from 10 goals) but that doesn't mean we don't need Davis and doesn't reflect on cleverly.

How many goals do you expect our strikers to get?

FYI, I think our leading league goal scorer in the last three years has had 14. 15 and recently 11 league goals. Who "expects" 10 from their midfielder? Not many Frank Lampards around Dark Lord.

Rules one club out of getting Clyne if true tho. Even if the papers say United haved moved on, they can still change their mind again.

True. In fact I've just read another article saying United still in Clyne hunt and Liverpool moving for Trippier. We won't know til it happens!

Davis is a pretty good player. I've always liked him.

But at the same time, that is a position we should look to strengthen, especially given Davis's second half performance. Unless Mane plays behind the striker, in which case Davis is relegated to squad//bench but we need to find a winger.

I guess I would say that Davis is somewhat like Pelle. A solid enough Premier League player who could start for most teams but who might not be good enough if we have top 4 ambitions. Take our defensive midfield and back four from this year and add Hazard and I think we would have finished top 4, easily. So that is clearly the area that needs improving.

The problem obviously, is that world class attackers are well out of our reach at present. So I think the only option is to bring in a bunch of Elia/Djuricic/Mane types and maybe one of them will be a surprise. The guys we bring in may or may not be better than Davis, but we need to create some competition and hopefully we'll turn up a gem.

If we are to continue to develop and push for a higher finish than 7th we need to bring in players that are better than we already have, making Davis, JWP, Tadic etc pushed onto the bench for top games and become squad players used in the event of injury, suspension, rotation etc

I think Ron sees Tadic as a main player...he spoke of his carrying an injury through most of the season necessitating a recuperating break. Remember Tadic when he first arrived....get him back to that and we'll be laughing.

The top attacking midfielders are scoring 10+ (Hazard, Silva, Chadli, Erikson) but 7+ seems about the mid range like Sigurdsson, Miralles, Ki Sung-Yueng, Cazola

Our two Davis and JWP have added one all season

Ideally yes, but it's going to be tough to being in players that will definitely be better than someone like Tadic. We're not Chelsea or Man City. We therefore have to sign players who we think can add quality to the squad and hope can be better than what we have. Those players may be gambles on relatively unknown foreign players, untried lower league players, or players that our team for the Southampton way from our opponents if available. Tom Cleverley on a free would have been pretty good for me. He may have started, he may have been on the bench, but he would have added to the depth of the squad. Let's not fall into the trap of having a good 14/15 and then after a few knocks we moan because our bench is made up of under 21s that are untried.

So expecting 10 from ours may have been a big ask? As I said if he scored he would be excellent, but him not scoring was not really the difference between us pushing even further on. We didn't have the depth of squad for when we were thin in the ground or needed a freshen up. Having a larger squad will allow that.

Of course he's a main man Fran. Thinking of us having a player like him benched is dreaming. We'll be more worried about keeping him than having him on the bench. He is quality and a class player, so let's hope he's fully fit for all of next season.

Di Mazio is very reliable, so think this rumour has legs
Okaka is big powerful striker and looks an alternative to Pelle as a player who can lead the line

Copenhagen have bombed out Steve de Ridder. Fans seem pleased to see the back of him.

Now at Zulte Waregem - who finish 12th out of 16 in Belgium's top flight - his 8th club in 10 years.

I've not seen Okaka, but notice he hasn't scored or assisted many. Is he what we need or is he bit of an Altidore?

Yes, I saw that but as you have been arguing about Cleverley, sometimes players just fit at some clubs or in some formations but not at others. I mean Crouch was hardly prolific before we signed him yet he did well. If we do sign Okaka, we will have to hope the same.
