Let's hope this report is true. Wouldn't want Vlaar at SMS. Too slow and far too injury prone.
Only consideration for me would be pay as you play deal as a back up in emergencies
VVD for me please

I watched him play a few times last season......underwhelmed is the word for me if we sign him.

Vlaar is not a Saints style signing so I can't see it being true. He is too old and will probably want too much money.
We need a more mobile defender alongside Jose

I've got no issue signing Vlaar as a squad player (although you would have wonder about Gardos' future in that case). There are bound to be times during the season where we find ourselves needing him - especially if/when Ron wants to play three at the back on occasions. He'd be a free transfer, and I'd be surprised if he's after stupid wages.

But I've got every issue with us signing Vlaar as Toby's replacement, so as a regular partner for Fonte. That would really worry me.

I would be very surprised if we signed Vlaar. In fact I just don't believe it's a possibility, just complete made-up nonsense from the papers. Van Dijk is a much better option: more mobile, a better ball player, and only 23.

Completely agree. Vlaar would provide depth for Fonte in terms of a centre back who attacks the ball and defends first but I'd be nervous about our team composition with Fonte and Vlaar as our starting pairing. I'm not against signing someone of his experience necessarily, with some good cbs coming through, but would prefer a quicker ball player (someone like Daniel Agger maybe, 30 year old who has a year left on his Bronby contract and I've always rated).

My preference is still for some one with top level potential but not against an experienced centre back if the right player isn't available.

Is it down to whether Celtic qualify for the Champions League DTLW? There was a lot of noise about him demanding a move regardless of that, to further his Holland career.
I think it will happen either way.

He wants to leave Celtic as he feels he can't progress and develop further there.

My take on it is that regardless of qualification, we'll make a serious play for him - and he fancies the move.

But, Celtic need to bank the UCL prize money and TV money from group stage qualification before they're prepared to weaken their side.
