Got to be honest, I was just trying to sound positive. I agree with your sentiments - the noises from Thauvin himself were very much about not moving anywhere, least of all NUFC. We've already failed Cabella, and what's worse is this particular target is it's a Graham Carr one, not a Steve McLaren one by all accounts.

It's strange - a few years ago the prospect of seeing £50m spent on the squad in a Summer would have been cause for celebrations. Now? It still feels very vapid, the real problems still not addressed, the template for players very much the same and the exact same formation both Pardew and Carver failed with has been deployed by McLaren.

It's really odd and hard to work out - it's almost as if Mike Ashley and his abundance of ignorance are actually in charge of everything from top to toe in the club, and everyone else is simply smoke & mirrors; some of the decisions (Colo's contract) have been baffling, the lack of LB and CB astounding, and even bringing in a new manager hasn't changed the scouting "focus" - what, it just so happened that McLaren wanted Thauvin despite having never seen Cabella play football?! It doesn't add up.

Maybe he has an environmentally friendly girlfriend and he is texting to tell her he managed to find her some green lingerie in the Club Shop. He may not be able agree personal terms but at least the trip wasn't entirely wasted.
