Quite a few on here would have been forming a queue on the third day to complain that God hadn't finished creating the world. Even if they didn't believe in Him!

Rome wasn't built in one day and NUFC aren't going to become World Club Champions overnight (2 games). It's going to take time, patience, 2/3 more new signings and a lot of hard work.

Expecting a Miracle on 34 Street isn't going to happen. Apart from anything else the transfer window isn't even shut yet and that would be the first deadline to be reviewing how things were progressing.

T.. It's far too early for Mac to know his best formation and playing options.
Plus, fish finger sandwiches are lush with mint sauce on.

I would have expected the defense to be significantly strengthened if any serious attempt were being made at improving the clubs on-pitch fortunes beyond the minimum of 'getting by'. This may still happen before the window closes but if NUFC had any real ambition to fly as high as possible then I'd expect them to move on transfer deals earlier in the window, allowing players time to integrate more effectively. By endlessly haggling and procrastinating, NUFC are damaging their chances in the seasons early matches, ensuring that they are played with an understrength and insufficiently strengthened squad. Effectively they are selling points in order to save some more money on transfer fees.

The players we are interested in are waiting to see if a "big" club is coming in for them,

The selling club is trying to get the replacement in,

Or

...

The first real deadline is the end of the transfer window. Then we see where we stand. At least it is for me.

It's a shame these factors only really hamper NUFC though. We could have moved for Ayew early in the window but didn't because (we were told) the board had concerns about his attitude (wages). Swansea didn't have those worries (they do have ambition though). Thauvin we are told may be coming to us... According to reports he has a fairly terrible attitude and has just had a very poor season, though no doubt he has lower wage demands, so that's ok. If the board have identified that we really need a winger we could also have tried for Payet or Shaqiri. Only problem is they probably cost more in wages etc - West Ham and Stoke can join Swansea in having more ambition than NUFC. We could really have done with a player like Cabaye for one of our deep lying CM positions if we are going to continue lining up as we have been, but he is unlikely to have any resale profit at 29, so we left him for yet another club with more ambition than NUFC in Crystal Palace.

Mitrovic will probably be a decent signing, more of a gamble than say Austin, but £2million cheaper and far lower wages so there we go. Mbemba, probably going to be decent but more importantly for NUFC - affordable. Another much needed CB? Less money spent if we simply renew the contract of the aging and increasingly unsuitable Colo.

Mclaren out - jokes but if he persists wirh his player selction hes in for a shock.

But they don't just affect us. Try asking Everton's fans or Arsenal's fans just by way of example.
 
Seems again that the players aren't living up to their billing on paper. However, I do think McLaren needs to bring in something new. I'd sooner see us trying the 4-3-3 Derby played and getting beat 4-3 than trying to consolidate with "6" at the back and losing 2-0. Better teams than us will get beat by Swansea; they have players who haven't yet hit headlines, so aren't suffering from Southampton's problem (yet), and have kept the main core together to effectively build on solid foundations with shrewd signings. McLaren's praise for them wasn't misplaced, but where Swansea have Huw Jenkins we've got a combination of Ashley and Charnley, it's fairly obvious where the main flaw is - it'll take McLaren time to put football matters ahead of commercial ones.

Thauvin seems to be a signing, if we take him, with a new formation in mind. I think Sissoko needs to go - he doesn't really want to be here and there's no point shoe-horning the guy in if we're not playing to his strengths. If McLaren is keeping him, then he needs to find a way to play with one destroyer - Colback for me, for now - behind a two man partnership of Gini and Sissoko. Aarons deserves to be left of the attack three, Obertan can stay right as he still doesn't deserve to be dropped and we don't actually own Thauvin. Cisse is a complete waste of space - I'd go with Perez or Mitrovic. I might even consider Perez as right or left of the front three with Mitrovic, instead of perhaps Aarons for now.

However, all of the questions about the front 4, 5 or 6 is irrelevant. Unless we can play regularly with a commanding centre half and bring in a PL quality left back, we'll be flirting with relegation - the goals will keep being leaked, and the mental impact on the attackers will take its' toll. Sadly, this is a problem only Charnley/Carr can fix and they chose to offer Colo a contract, when the thing to do was offer him a one way ticket to San Lorenzo and do whatever it took to sign Matip or (laughable notion warning) Otamendi. Two weeks we have to sign 2 defenders and, arguably, a first class DM plus right sided attacker. I anticipate none, so we'll just have to see what McLaren can do between now and January. Two more defeats beckon - poor bloke was dealt a bad enough hand by the Premier League fixtures computer, but yet again Charnley's served up a 'bare minimum' and asked for 8th.
 
Unless we sign about 4 top players in the correct moulds and positions were going down without a shadow of doubt.

Mclaren and newcastle are in serious trouble. I can see only one win until October!!!

By then confidence will be zero and its huge in my opinion.

But they won't. We have 4 first team CB's, maybe 5 with Dummett. We never seem to sign backup, so RB will remain a huge issue. And we have 2 LB's. It's the way it is at NUFC under Charnley - Purple Players rule. We don't upgrade without selling first, and even then often fail to actually buy better!!

I don't know what the board are doing, but we appear to be heading back to that point where only relegation is going to sort out the mess. I think the squad is capable of avoiding relegation, but we're still looking at 14th at best.

Arsenal are far more ambitious than NUFC and far less in dire need of reinforcement - their situation is so alien to ours. Before the season started they looked to have a great squad, apart from GK. They signed Cech to rectify this, no messing around. If their squad was anywhere close to as deficient as ours they would be making sure that they did the necessary to rectify the situation and they would not be taking until the end of the window to do so. Everton have greater similarities as they very rarely spend much. However they still manage to do what they need to in order to be competitive, not just scrape by. They were more ambitious with their managerial appointment than we have been and when they had a player on loan who did very well for them, they did what was required to secure his permanent transfer. We have seen NUFC run into the ground over successive transfer windows, successful loan players allowed to leave (wouldn't want to pay high wages) and too little being done about clear squad weaknesses this summer. The priority still seems to be to strengthen just enough as has been judged to survive and then make do and get by.

Aldi are too successful and well run to compare with NUFC. Everton can be Aldi - cheap but doing pretty well. NUFC would a scabby 99p store - crumbling, grimy and full of really cheap products that break 2 minutes after being purchased.
