Well I for one am glad the whore is dead and I have no shame in saying that. I hope she had a horrible death. If she does have a state funeral they should fire the guns into the coffin.
A difference in the approach to society would be politically acceptable. However, we are discussing a PM who stated that there was "no such thing as society" - a very different issue. Her legacy will not truly be capable of analysis until market dominated politics is replaced.
So, why would anybody even consider her for a State Funeral- because of the Falklands? I don't want to sound patronising, but imo you have to be old enough to remember the pre-Thatcher era to fully understand the impact of her policies. There were many problems when I was growing up, but there was always a sense of optimism that social evolution was moving in the right direction. Thatcherism destroyed that, it re-introduced a philosophy of selfishness and encouraged the greedy pursuit of materialism and contempt for the common people. A government is responsible for all its people, not just the favoured few. Thatcher and her cronies set back the cause of social inclusiveness and unity by several decades at least. Any perceived, short term achievements are nothing in comparison to the overall detrimental effects of those years. In truth, I can't be bothered celebrating her death because it won't undo the damage done, but I'd like to see the effects of her reign put into proper historical context, and not skewed by some rose-tinted view of her as some heroic wartime leader.
As always saint, I'm in total agreement, but I can't help but feel joy at her demise. My dad used to vote tory before her. He soon changed his allegiance. He could see what she was doing systematically, especially to his and my home city and to the North generally.
My dad also, inexplicably, voted Tory all his life although his philosophy was anything but conservative (perhaps not quite so inexplicable in that he lived through WWII and as a result was an admirer of Churchill). He died a few years after Thatcher came to power so missed seeing the effects of his aberration.
My Dad too. He even served for a short time at the end in the Pacific as a Royal Marine. Maybe it was a knock-on from WWII
One of the overlooked advantages of Thatch's passing is that it's stopped us talking about the ****ing match
It appears that our stories are common as far as our parents are concerned. For those who were born post-Thatcher to even understand the realities as we knew it must be very difficult indeed.
In my opinion, she was also effectively responsible for the death of Labour and the birth of 'New Labour'. They felt it was the only way they could ever get elected, so monumentally ****ing up politics in this country. Why the **** did John Smith have to die?
All she did was to sort out lazy lefty workers that were striking every other week brining our country down. RIP Maggie.
This She put millions onto the dole queue just to prove a point to her cronies, she destroyed British industry to a point it could never recover from, she created a culture of pure greed and gluttony that has never gone away and she pandered to the police to the point where they could cover up the deaths of 96 innocent football fans and society just accepted the police had nothing to answer for. Pure scum who I hope will burn in hell for eternity Today for me is a day of pure celebration
In the days when I had a wife I found aimlessly wandering the streets to be a more worthwhile pursuit.
Always hear the same stories about her and always the same sort of people saying it. Yes she was wrong over poll tax but it was the same (just a different name under Labour). Arthur Scargill was an enemy to this country (regarding unions) and she sorted it. If Labour were in charge during the Falklands they would have let Argentina have them. Blair has caused more deaths to British soldiers then she ever did. However I am not stupid and realise that she made some mistakes that caused a lot of heart ache to families and I know Liverpool took the main 'kick in the nuts' and I do feel for the people of Liverpool at that time. As I said before she was an 87yr old woman that died of a stroke and if people need to rejoice or mock a dead pensioner than that just shows what they really are.
