I cannot believe what I am reading, I though the truth was beginning to be uncovered. Paint brushing history and propaganda once more. I for one cannot wait for the press to turn (as they always do) in 6 months or so time and the real truth behind her comes forward

On one of the Irish sites this morning, Thatcher dies of a strike
I don't think it was an meant but it makes a good joke none the less.

I said something similar on Facebook last night, comparing it to Savile's death as he was seen as a hero when he died too. Got a huge backlash from supposed friends and even some family. Left a bitter taste in my mouth how some people were quick to judge me on my views but openly saw her as a 'great' lady.

They're either ignorant of that facts due to age or were from an area that was untouched by her callous regime.
At least you can look yourself in the mirror mate![]()

I live in a pit village and the response of most my ''friends'' on FB has been pure celebration.
Bit stupid to accuse those of us who lived as adults through the period of "jumping on a bandwagon". You claim to be looking at the bigger picture but your words suggest you're missing it completely. The big picture shows the long-lasting devastation caused to communities by Thatcherism, the return to 19th Century values of selfishness and greed and disregard for others, and the idea that the workers are only fit to earn a pittance lining the pockets of the privileged (if you don't believe that one read up on Keith Joseph- a major architect of Thatcherism).
The unions had become too politicised and that needed addressing- but their solution was not to put the power back into the hands of the people, but to remove it completely- leaving the working classes with less say in their own lives than they'd had since the beginning of the Labour movement.
Conservatives attack the welfare system as a drain on the country, but the reason it's not economically viable for some to work is not because benefits are too high, but because minimum wages are too low. This is all the result of the monetarist policies of Milton Friedman adopted by the Thatcher government. The small number who are milking the system are not typical and highlighting their devious activities paints a false picture and gives the Daily Mail brigade something else to harumph about.
As for privatisation, selling the family silver is an act of desperation, putting essential services in the hands of private profit seekers is an act of social vandalism.
Where you from? Obviously, Im from a pit village and it would be fair to say there has been a joyess reaction from most.

Whereas I certainly won't shed any tears I still think it's a bit wrong to celebrate someone dying but each to their own.

And from self-imposed exile.....
Well, it's very apt she went the same way as Stalin. A whole host of Latin American dictators would have been there to meet her this morning, but we'll have to ask Mackenzie, as beelzebub's representative on Earth, whether it's true she's already closed down two furnaces and privatised six of the seven layers of Hell. Probably be riots in Hades when Satan's little helpers are forced to pay poll tax.
Well, been off the drink for nearly two years, but I'm truly tempted tonight , and I hope the council will put some sort of party on in Liverpool, with top NW bands volunteering to play for free. I'm sure Elvis Costello, for one, would play, and the proceeds go to unemployed miners. One thing for sure though, \I for one won't be a ****ing hypocrite pretending it's bad news, any more than Republican Spaniards were supposed to pretend the death of Franco was a bad thing. **** her, her jackals in the press and slimebags like blair with his effusive fawning tonight. Cocksuckers.
Bliss it is to be alive upon this dawn.![]()
