Today's conversation between a mate of mine (an ex-Leeds United first team player) and myself immediately after the televised game ended.
A more genuine lad you could ever meet, so he really does feel for Hull City, despite his obvious wish for his ex-team to get promoted.
I thought about inviting him round here this morning, but the early k.o. time made it impractical for him to make it on time (especially as we've had a lot of snow in the last couple of days).
It's hard to put a finger on our recent precipitous slump ?

I feel sorry for Hull having just seen the Leeds game.
The ‘keeper made some wonderful saves.
It cannot be just down to losing Bowen can it? Injuries?
Will McCann be sacked?
Only 4 points off relegation places but interesting games coming up which will define the season. Charlton, Stoke, ‘Boro and Birmingham.
10 games left - 30 possible points (!) How many will do it?
I wish Hull well.
Hope all well with you, ????. We must have that beer!

My response:
Hi ????,
Depressing it was. City didn't have a clue. It reminded me of 5 & 6 year olds hovering in packs trying to get the ball off the opposition.
Apparently we were even worse in Tuesday's home loss to Barnsley.
So many times 3 of Hull's players went for the same man, leaving 2 extra Leeds players free to receive the ball from the man in possession.
Admittedly a few injuries and the loss of your top 2 scorers mid-season doesn't help. However, the owners have gone for lower quality players this season, showing little ambition. McCann seems clueless in the sense that he hasn't managed to galvanize his players with desire and a tactical plan. He may have had his hands tied behind his back by the owners somewhat, but there seems a lack of belief has become engrained into the players minds. There's something wrong in the camp, pros don't ever intentionally give up so I believe the root cause has to be the manager's ability to motivate or deploy tactics that the players buy into or even understand.
Will he be fired ? Given the owners have openly admitted they are not football men, they probably don't even realize that the manager may be part of the problem. How many quality managers (if any are even available) would want to come to a club in turmoil with little visible ambition ? The opportunity to stabilize a club in the PL or now the Championship after over a 100 years of trying seems to have been lost. Worrying times. I'd love to be wrong, but at the moment it's hard to see an escape from relegation.
The only silver lining from this week's miserable results is LUFC strengthening their automatic promotion chances. It'll be tough up there if they make it, so I hope the powers that be have some money to strengthen the team. Sheffield United have been a surprise after their promotion, but it's a rare thing unless there's heavy financial backing.
You're right about the beer. When the weather gets a little warmer we should set something up with Karl, Willie and Steve, and anyone else you think should join us. (Steve says hi by the way - he's just left here as depressed as I am !).
All the best ????.
