As we are in Yuletide, what about clubs we like?
PL Arsenal and Bournemouth
Championship PNE
División 1 Bolton
Division 2 Swindon
National League Scunthorpe
La Liga Athletic Bilbao and Real.Mallorca
Bundesliga Bayern (The Kane factor)
Serie A: Atalanta

I like Athletic Bilbao, Ajax, Inter, and AS Roma. Nearly bought a Roma shirt when I was in Rome, but it didn’t feel right to do that.

Forgot about Everton. 1984.

Must be healing after 41 years.
Number One hated team for me. After getting outside the ground my dad and me were set upon by a set of Everton fans ( half a dozen ), I was only 14 at the time and a wee lad. I received a bit of a kicking and got thrown over a bush into somebody's garden but my dad got it far worse even though he was shouting "it's just me and the lad, it's just me and the lad" He never went to another football match for years after that, not surprised really after getting beaten up by a bunch of thugs whilst trying to protect me.

Don’t like Spurs. Or Millwall or West Ham.

Am okay with all other London clubs, and actually have soft spots for both Chelsea and Arsenal (family reasons, plus they both hate Sours).

My top 5 hated teams

Liverpool
Liverpool
Liverpool
Liverpool
Liverpool

Mainly because of the fans I know or have known. Bunch of entitled pricks who never go and actually support the team. One of them, when I first met him and he asked me who I support said “Ooh I bet you keep that quiet!” Dickhead!! I used every ounce of my self control that day to refrain from punching the twat!

Strangely though, they’ve been a bit quieter recently :)

To be fair I worked with loads of Pompey fans on and off over the years in the past, especially when we did a huge brand-new extension/buildings in HMS Temeraire and apart from one I remember who was a 'full-time stereo-typical football-hooligan-Pompey-fan-working-with-Saints-Fans' and was an utter d**k, the rest were okay, good laughs, and they knew me and a few others were Saints fans, they didn't even take the p**s about that much.

Perhaps I was lucky?
Maybe it was in an era where Pompey were not in a position to take the proverbial pee, during the 70s and 90s!

I think this thread has come up a few times. In my opinion, the dislike for a club is not consistent but changes with a club's changing fortunes.

I have never liked Arsenal yet found this team under Wenger insufferable. This was exacerbated by the fact that I frequently visited France during his tenure and disliked how popular Arsenal were in the Hexagon at that time. I really hated the bespectacled knob who ran one of the Arsenal fan sites.

I have never liked Liverpool and find them insufferable. It pleases me whenever their fortunes wain or if they get humiliated by Man Utd. Just feel they are the one English team due their comeuppance and even more so than Man Utd. Other than that, i have to say I have never liked Spurs who I feel have a fan base that is seriously deluded over their reputation. The affinity towards Israel also makes Spurs a team I really dislike.

As far as Portsmouth are concerned, I see them as bitter rivals yet also have respect for them. Some of their fans are horrible and have a dreadful degree of misunderstanding. Despite this, for me they are not a team I could dismiss. There is so much heritage with Portsmouth and I do feel that they have a bigger and more passionate fan base. Having worked for a long while in the PO postcode area, I feel Saints fans seriously under-rate Portsmouth whilst , at the same time, few clubs have underperformed quite like Portsmouth over the last 50 years. Having seen what Portsmouth achieved under Redknapp, I am wary of what they could do if they got their act together. They are not irrelevant and would be bigger than Saints if they had more capable owners and a stadium that belonged to 21st century and not 19th. Not convinced they will ever fulfil their potential yet am conscious that a 'rectified 'Portsmouth would have the potential to dwarf Southampton. Just don't see it happening in the short term but I think the threat is there is they ever got their act together. In summary, I enjoy reading about their misfortunes whilst conscious that the potential is there to be the south's biggest club.

Not sure about the dislike for Bournemouth. I am always glad to see them do well unless playing Saints.

Whatever happened to the hatred towards Luton Town ? They were always the villains in the 1980s. Just think that Saints fans are more inclined to dislike former manager or players as opposed to clubs these days. Different in the times of plastic pitches !
More and more you bizarrely seem to heap compliments on Pompey. Maybe it is a perverse pleasure you have!

Ps, their fan base really isn’t bigger or more loyal.

I used to work for Mansell in the 1990s and a couple of my colleagues supported Middlesbrough. There was a lot of wind ups in the office , usually centred around Matt Le Tissier and the rivalry became more and more outlandish. Always hoped that Boro would get relegated but the best wind up was when I convinced a colleague that all thr Brazilians had sensationally quit. This was before the Internet and I managed to gey one colleague to leave work early to check on Ceefax.

The rivalry was good natured but I have always wanted Boro to lose after that.

Quite interesting to see which companies I worked for had a bias for particular clubs. Mansel were largely all Palace fans in Croydon.

They had 5 seasons in the 90s where they averaged less than 10k. For comparison our last season below 10k was before WWII.

As I said earlier too we have a bigger average since both clubs joined the football league and they had a bigger ground for 85 of those years.

Complete Portsmyth. If anything we're the bigger underachievers.

Not at all. If you work in Portsmouth you will find exactly the same arguments presented against Southampton albeit maybe a bit more vociferously. As I said, their fans are far more fickle but I also think are far less pragmatic and mature as most Saints fans. Probably fair to say I have had far more abuse from Pompey fans that I have witnessed the otherwise around. I have had "Scummer" chanted at me working into a site in Chichester. I like the banter and am not offended but think that would not happen if someone from Pompey walked into a site in Southampton. It is almost as if Portsmouth fans define themselves by heaping ridicule on Saints fans. I think a proportion of Saints fans aren't bothered by Portsmouth and I understand that completely. When I first followed Saints in the 1970s Portsmouth were not on the radar as they were languishing in Divsion 2 prior to relegation to the old 4th division. I only started to be aware of them after the Steve Moran Cup tie and probably gave them more credence after the Division One defeat at The Dell. Their misfortunes have been amusing. It is just that I am wary of them when they get their act together.

They definitely do get abuse on building sites here. Even plastic fans from Soton who 'support' big clubs don't like them in my experience.

With respect Ian why are you making assumptions about the city when you don't live here?

I've worked down there a few times. Most memorable being when I did door to door canvassing down there during the 2011/12 season.

Anyone who answered with a skate shirt on and I was unsuccessful with I would end the conversation with "Sorry, one more question before I go - are you able to tell me who's top of the league?"

I have not really worked in Southampton. Started off it town but only done one project in Southampton since 1992. By contrast, I have worked on 4 projects in Portsmouth including 7 years with a company based outside. I have enjoyed the banter on site but found instances outside and around the town to be more menacing. The wind ups on site have been amusing including being called out by the police in the dockyard for having Saints air freshener.

Never experienced anything like LincolnSaint's experience but have found Liverpool fans to be the least appealing.

Intrigued about the comments about foreign clubs. My experience has been really positive.

Hell is more than likely to freeze over before that happens!

Hate is too strong, but my feelings about another club can be seen in my response to results. Beating Liverpool comes top of my list as greatest results. That 3-2 a few years back made me a very happy bunny. Losing to them is the pits. This is fuelled by living surrounded by their fans. In addition I loath the fact that they attract so many glory hunting plastics.

I am beginning to like Bayern Munchen not least due to Kane who, not only has a fantastic work ethic but I see him.as a role model.for any aspiring footballer in how to look after oneself in order to have a prolonged playing career.

you know Kane is only 32? Not exactly old for a player even 20 years ago
