I agree with your analysis on Liam Wizard - Bony was actually very good for the Swans - great body strength. The reason I wouldn't leave Liam out on Saturday is Berahinho - he'll know him well from the U21s plus Wes and Wasyl might struggle with his pace ... For me - given the opposition and current form: Schmeichel Schlupp Morgan Moore Simpson Cambiasso King Hammond Mahrez Vardy Ulloa
I think we should play King, he's the only player that's really linking up our midfield and attack right now. We played our best football when he was in the team earlier in the season- he was great against both Everton and Chelsea, and I don't really see why he's been dropped for Drinkwater, who doesn't play that role quite as well. I think we should be still playing Drinkwater, but alongside Cambiasso and King, who each offer something different to our team. I think playing Hammond and Cambiasso is too negative, especially at home, and James just isn't cutting it for me right now. My team would be: Schmeichel Simpson Morgan Moore Konchesky Mahrez Cambiasso Drinkwater King Schlupp Ulloa
I would go with: Schmeichel Simpson Moore Morgan Konchesky Cambiasso James/King Mahrez Knockaert Vardy Ulloa
With all the different opinions as to who should play, and in what position, it just shows how far we are away from having a settled side that picks itself. And that's worrying this far into the season. Since the Man Utd game, when everything looked rosy and we looked like we had a team that could play together, we seem to have gone rapidly backwards. What changed? We have to start getting pairings and combinations nailed soon. We seem to have the centre of defence sorted with Morgan and Moore, even though Liam can look a bit shaky and inexperienced at times, but keeping them together should strengthen the understanding between them and he does offer more in the way of pace. Do we have to have Cambiasso just in front to provide a bit more experience and guidance? We don't appear to have the left or right flanks sorted. Just as Baines at Everton isn't as effective without Pienaar to link up with, we need to get understandings between our full backs and wide midfielders. Do we continue with Konchesky? If so does Schlupp have to play in order to provide support for him, or do we play Schlupp instead of Konchesky, and who is the best support for him? On the right who do we play to support De Laet or Simpson? And who makes up our best attacking/creative midfield combination? At home do we have to set up differently because we are expected to be more adventurous? Or should we always set up to be difficult to beat? Like the footer on Queenie's posts says, it's about picking the best team rather than the best players. Who knows what that team is at the moment?
There was talk this morning of Anthony Knockaert joining Forest, apparently Tom Ince was stalling his loan move to Forest but that has since gone through
Some good points on here - for me the most imprtant aspect is service to Leo - hasn't really been any since the Man United game ... Vardy wasted wide left - got to be Schlupp / Knocky or Mahrez - have Vardy play right or as a two with Leo through the centre. Cambiasso has to start ... amd that is all
I think we have been too naive away from home by trying to set out and beat everyone. I like the 5-3-2 I mentioned away from home, it allows us to use De Laet and Schlupp going forward aswell as covering any defensives weaknesses they have aswell
01 Schmeichel 02 de Laet 05 Morgan 27 Wasilewski 03 Konchesky 04 Drinkwater 10 King 19 Cambiasso 08 James 09 Vardy 35 Nugent Very odd team, probably can't argue with Wasilewski in for Moore, but dropping Ulloa and Mahrez, our best attacking threats so far (it's not saying much, admittedly) and playing not 3, but 4 central midfielders is very strange. Pleased that King's getting in, but no Knockaert in the squad again! It's not that our squad's that good to leave him out, no matter what his recent form has been! Nice to see Powell on the bench for the first time though!
Really uninspired by today's team. De Laet still not made way for Simpson, Liam dropped instead (although nice to see Was) and Nugent who has not done anything all season still in the team instead of Ulloa. Really disappointed and don't see how we will get anything out of this match. Feel free to prove me wrong Leicester and I'd love that, just not seeing it
4 central midfielders? No wingers? Interested to see how we set up. Cambiasso bombing down the wing maybe lol
54% of play but not to creative so far tbh (both teams). Maybe we need abit of width in the 2nd half ?
We've just edged it, but this is certainly looking like a last on MOTD contender. Cambiasso getting stuck in, and Was is looking big and ugly, but Nugent and King haven't managed to get into the game at all, I'd like to see Mahrez introduced sooner rather than later.
