Hi J8. I try not to wum, but maybe sometimes I do. I definitely try to be clever and at least sometimes succeed The definitions are quite simple. Proper supporters back their team, preferably by singing, cheering, applauding and the like loudly and persistently. If for whatever reason a person feels s/he can't do that, well sometimes they could if they tried a bit harder, but if they really can't, then at least be quietly supportive and don't go round abusing our players, and moaning and groaning. 'Moany regulars' is simple, those people who regularly go the the Lane and regularly moan while they're there. The Lane's been cursed with them for the 50+ years I've been going, but seats exacerbate the problem, because if you're sat next/near to one you can't move away the way you could on the terraces. It's also my impression there are more moaners than there used to be. They just drain the life out of the atmosphere and play a key role in making going to the Lane such a dull, drab and dispiriting affair so often these days. Tonight is an 1882 night, now these are proper supporters. They 'sing for the shirt', back the players on the pitch and try to make the ground a livelier, louder place. It's embarrassing how far we've fallen behind continental Europe in this regard. At one time our crowds could match the Germans and others, no longer alas. A key reason we never lost at home in Europe for well over 20 years till a one goal defeat by Real Madrid, was our crowd.. It sometimes used to be awesome on European nights, and was always louder than the away fans. No longer the case, it's embarrassing how often we're outshouted and outsung at home these days by the Continentals. I hope this answers your question
Friedel; Walker, Kaboul, Vertonghten, Naughton; Paulinho, Lamela, Dembele; Sigurdsson, Eriksen; Defoe Chiriches, Holtby, Capoue, Chadli, Lloris, Kane, Bentaleb
Feel free YV. Well the exciting 'news/rumour' that caused me to start this thread has prove spectacularly true, in two cases anyway, which were the main predictions anyway. So massive plaudits to the 'ITK' who called that. Kab to start and Cap on the bench. Fantastic news, sudddenly our squad looks a whole lot stronger, though I sure hope Naughton isn't playing LB on Sunday. I'd have thought JV could have been rested as it seems for sure we'll need him at LB on sunday. But anyway a strong team and I expect a win. Now let's see the crowd giving it some. A full house apparently, which is a fantastic start. I hope Bentaleb gets some game time, haven't seen him play before, not that I remember anyway.
I suspect this will be quite a different game to that served up by these two teams on Sunday. Perhaps that is just a hope on my part. Did Hull go home or just stay in London, does anybody know?
My guess from what I've read is that they went home, which was another big plus this game is on Wednesday and Everton is on Sunday. I too think tonight will be a lot better than Sunday.
Looks a good side although I would rather we played Fryers at left back than Naughton, the lesser of two evils. Pleased for Bentaleb to get on the bench, although I doubt we'll be seeing him on the pitch

Well if you saw/heard the game the answer came over loud and clear and yes my analysis was 'clever and correct' A far superior atmosphere, with 1882 in the house, and my guess here, less 'moany regulars' but anyway without doubt a far better crowd, a far better game, even though we lacked many of our better players, what a difference a crowd makes! Also well done to AVB for correctly and cleverly speaking out about our regular home crowd, here's hoping things get better from now on - over to the 'normal crowd' v Toon I'll be listening
I think just having that concentrated block lifts any other isolated fans that want to join in, despite some of those around them keeping quiet. Cheaper prices for this game probably helped, too. Younger, newer fans are less jaded and more positive, generally speaking.
Absolutely PNP - that's why 1882 are so fantastic, they've got off their arses and done something to help our great old club I'm so proud of them And as you say younger fans are less jade. So many kids tonight apparently, because of half-term, that game and atmosphere will help some of them fall in love with the club tonight as I did from the first time I walked wide-eyed into the Lane and saw the titans that were Greaves, Mackay Jones and co. and just being amongst 50,000 or so fans it was overwhelming, an incredible experience AVB has come on TV tonight and praised the crowd and rightly so. He may not know how lucky he was that it was a different crowd to the regular one, but hey always good to have a lucky manager.
