If there was anything dodgy about the Philogene deal, I think that Villa are the ones creating the dodginess, it wasn’t just Philogene they “sold” & bought back, but Cameron Archer too, they then “sold” him again to Southampton.
Didn’t they & Everton both spend money on youth players from each other, just happening to be the same amount?

Yeah, Chelsea, Forest and Newcastle also did it. It’s a loophole to get around FFP/PSR.

Transfer fees are amortised over the length of the contract. If you buy a player for £20 million on a 5-year-deal, it would count as a £4 million loss per year. However, any incomings from player sales are calculated as profit for that year so if you sell an academy player for £20 million, that’s £20 million pure profit. So buying a player for £20 million on a 5-year-deal and selling an academy player for £20 million in the same year would be a £16 million profit, not including wages. That’s why Chelsea, Villa, Everton etc. sold each other academy players for almost equal transfer fees.

Glenfiddich aged 17. 40 years before I touched whisky again.
Gin aged 17, either half a bottle or bottle before playing Neil Young songs at school concert. I couldn't understand why there was unbridled cheering in the middle of the songs. Only learned later that my 'friends' who were supposed to be doing a slide show of Hollywood scenes above my head had substituted them for shots of Mayfair centrefolds. Never touched gin since.

I doubt the decision to stick with Allsop had anything to do with the other coaches. I'd be surprised if it wasn't simply that Rosenior himself made the decision to stick with Allsop, simple as.

If that were the case why did we not retain the GK coach we've had for years then?

Only just catching this now, yesterday was a washout for me.

Very surprised, but not surprised, I thought Tan came across very well too, but that’s football and unlike other people who lose their jobs, he won’t have to worry about money for a while and will probably walk into another job anyway. That said, I did really like him and it appeared the 2 worked well together.
