He's ****e, Vince.
What it is it about him that makes you not rate him?
I've read that he's tactically versatile, likes to play a high pressing game, can spot a player. Seemed to me his was of the same sort of thinking as someone like Bielsa (not saying he's anywhere near as good) or had at least learnt from watching managers like that. I thought all that sounded pretty good.

McInnes on the verge - compensation all but agreed & he's due to be unveiled on Wearside shortly
Derek McInnes is due on Wearside today to conclude formal negotiations to take the manager's job at Sunderland. The 45-year-old Scot is set to be unveiled within 48 hours subject to Aberdeen agreeing a compensation payment.

Sunderland are on the verge of unveiling Derek McInnes as the club’s new manager.

An extraordinary board meeting has been called at Aberdeen today where the Dons' board have been asked to ratify a negotiated compensation fee for their manager whilst the 45-year-old has entered formal discussions to agree terms with the Black Cats.

McInnes is due on Wearside shortly - if he's not arrived already - to conclude discussions with the Sunderland hierarchy.

After seemingly trawling through the names of every manager with some semblance of second-tier experience, Sunderland have returned to the point at which they started this manager hunt and will seek to appoint McInnes within the next couple of days.

McInnes emerged early on as a front-runner for the vacancy at the Stadium of Light. The Pitodrie boss has been on an extended holiday and returned within the last few days, set to enter formal negotiations with Sunderland top-brass.

McInnes is said to have initially met with Walter Smith - who has been advising Sunderland chief executive Martin Bain - at the end of May. Since then, various names have emerged as 'favourites' only to slip away again in the betting markets. The Aberdeen boss appears to have been the preferred candidate during the Black Cats' detailed hunt for a new man.

David Moyes resigned over three weeks ago and since then Sunderland have gone through a protracted recruitment process to find his replacement with CV's requested, informal sounding-out discussions and a short-list said to have included Ryan Giggs, Paul Lambert, Simon Grayson and Nigel Pearson.

The stumbling block for McInnes has always thought to have been the availability - or lack of - funds to rebuild the Sunderland squad which will be unrecognisable come August from the one which finished the season last month.

Coupled with that, the Paisley-born former midfielder is thought to have been keen to ensure his initial deal at the Stadium of Light contains some form of written assurance over his position at the club and his access to funds.

Right now, relative to the other candidates bandied around, McInnes appears to be the best man for the job. His achievements up in Scotland in revitalising Aberdeen based on a strong worth-ethic and getting the best out of players will see him land at the Stadium of Light with much promise.

But for this appointment - probably the most important in a decade - Sunderland AFC need to play their part in this process and back their man with a reasonable transfer budget and to enable him to bring in his own team to work alongside him.

The appointment should be ratified within 48 hours and it's thought McInnes is due on Wearside today to negotiate the final details of his deal.

His time at Bristol City was a disaster. Their fans have said he didn't get much money but the money he did get, he wasted on ****e. He was found lacking in knowing what was required to get competitive, in this league.

Both the Aberdeen and Bristol City fans say that when the chips are down this guy is tactically inept.

Walter Smith and Martin Bain were both at Rangers. Jobs for the boys springs to my mind.

Ouch. Just read this on the Aberdeen forum<laugh>.
Theres a few of them quite pished off that hes going....

Disappointing. I thought the day McInnes left us it would be for a better club than Sunderland. Over £150m in debt, awful squad, a stadium they could never even fill in the Premier League and now they're a 2nd division team.

Should have stuck it out here longer and he would have had far better offers. Sunderland are a nothing club. They've had 2 top half Premier League/1st division finishes in over 50 years and that's it.

They're a nothing club.

*Assuming he's ends up there of course!

Is that unanimous or a hand picked selection?
I've asked people I know who follow football north of the border, and they speak highly of him

I've never known anybody in the history of football were everybody speaks about them all with the same opinion.

The most Aberdeen can possibly ever do is finish second in the league and get to a cup final against Celtic cause theyll never have the financial clout to compete against them. Hes just ticked both them boxes so why would he stay there any longer? Thick Jocks.

Spot on. The bloke did the best he can with that club. I don't want him but that's What we got so get on with it.

I just hope he doesn't but any Scottish players.

Fair do's. I'd not heard any of that about him, other than that Bristol City hadn't gone well. But then all I read about that was that he'd disagreed with the owner.
I suppose all we can do now is see what happens.

Smug,
If we get him he can't be any worse than Moyes, can he?

He'll be proud to be at Sunderland, something Moyes obviously never was.

I'll want him to totally commit to the club, move to the area and ask the players to do the same.

I'll want him to build a team, not assemble a collection of players.

And, above all, I'll want him to connect the players to the supporters and thereby the club.

We need to feel we're all in the same boat ..... no matter how leaky <laugh>

You never know guys, he could be the next Alex Ferguson! <whistle>

I think given time he'll do a good job, but how much time are the owner and the fans going to give him??

We'll see....

Almost identical track records at Aberdeen. Ferguson won the Scottish title a few times, both the cups (again a few times), the European Cup Winners Cup (beating Bayern Munich and Real Madrid), the European Super cup. He then turned down Tottenham, Arsenal and Rangers before taking Man Utd.

McInnes won a cup, on penalties, after a 0-0 draw with Caledonian Thistle. To be fair McInnes has done an excellent job with Aberdeen, he has them performing as well as anyone realistically could. Bristol was 4 years ago, can't the guy have learnt and improved?
