I really think the ACV is a red herring which had no bearing on the yanks pulling out. What I heard was due diligence threw up a number of things, the Americans adjusted the price and the owners wouldn't accept that price. So the Yanks withdrew the bid. It is like a game of dare at the moment. I think the ACV was granted when the bid was dead in the water.
Dickp- Then the question is, what things did due diligence throw up? If they came up once they'll come up again.
This is not the first bid where the prospective bidders have pulled out, it is the only one that has been leaked to the SLP. You have got to ask yourself why the prospective owners are pulling out. The only people who can answer that are the current owners.
Good article as always from Wyn Grant. American takeover bid withdrawn The South London Press has reported that the American takeover bid for Charlton has been withdrawn, apparently over a failure to agree over price: Takeover . Suggestions that the acquisition of Asset of Community Value status for The Valley by the Charlton Athletic Supporters Trust have no basis. A well informed Addick has stated, 'I can confidently say "no" to that because directors have a direct line to Trust people including me, and none of them have ever raised ACV as an issue with any of us, at any time during the lengthy process of getting it. Indeed I was told that the whole Peninsula issue is a red herring regarding any takeover.' Once again the issue would appear to be one of realistic pricing. Nothing more has been heard of the British property company, so that was also supposedly interested, but this always looked a less attractive offer in terms of the sums of money likely to be available and the suspicion that it was a property play. The squad badly needs strengthening in the transfer window to avoid a relegation battle, but we continue to lose money (as do most Championship clubs).
Lets cross everything and pray that we produce a turn of form that atleast assists us in surviving this year in the CC. If you were so interested in a club, why would the odd million or two change your mind ? Might be something more than just price, which like some have said could be a problem going forward etc.
Correct in my opinion. I think a few people today are getting a bit ahead of themselves in terms of their self importance and influence on this on/off deal. I can just picture the scene in the lawyer's office in Philadelphia, as the fateful decision was taken to pull the plug... "boys, the deal is off, a few old duffers over in SE7 have got 1,900 names on a petition" When we are playing 4-5-1 in March , stiull on 17 points and with no fit strikers at the Club, we will all look back and curse Razil for dressing up in that bunny suit
Is it over, or could there still be a bit of poker being played..? People are pointing the finger at everything from the Trust to the asking price... Now there's claims of owning land on the peninsula... Also we hear Due Diligence completed yet again, but buyers pull out..? FFS what the heck is going on, does anybody actually know anything..? I still hope something happens, because we're in a mess, which I can only see getting messier with dodgy Jimenez and his City supporting sidekick in charge... Contrary to a very unwell minority who want us to believe that all our problems are down to the manager, and can be fixed with the addition of a shiny new one, I don't see any real future without money... Investment is needed, and a real plan needs to be in place, something we can all get behind, not the invisible 5 year plan mentioned by City Slater... Has anybody got a link to this said plan btw..? The only plan I can see suiting these wide boys is a sale, so I guess we have to keep hoping... Failing that I think admin would throw up many takers, but then that was the case under Murray, but he decided to wipe out fans shares, then sell to this lot... He done his dough and like all third rate poker players is trying to get it back... So is there going to be a sale, or is it admin..?
I don't feel unwell at all...in fact into my 5th decade I am bursting with good health...and I want a new manager #GoingdownwithSirChris
If it's going to cost this lot anything, your chances of getting one are slimmer than walking away with all your fingers intact after a handshake with Murray.
I may be a touchy sod at the best of times, but I am actually very unwell, so I do not take too kindly to this sort of comment.
I don't know whether I'm well or not- maybe The Doctor knows. What I am sure of is this- if CP looks at the current situation and does not believe he can keep us in the Championship without significant investment you can bet your life he will be proved right. Only he knows how he sees things, and if he thinks the situation is hopeless he should walk. I don't want him sacked, the decision is his as far as I'm concerned.
I agree with everything on this post. Vol, a new manager would be,to some, the icing on the cake. But without the cake it is redundant. It is like building a new shiny house on quicksand, it looks nice but it will sink. What is needed are new owners who can invest in January, sort out the contracts and stabilise the club. Then the Manager situation can be sorted out. We are bobbing about like a cork in a storm.
rubbish. CP would keep us up if he had the players he wanted. last year he had no money and we finished 9th.
Not rubbish at all, have you seen our performances recently ? We don't create any chances and the few we do create don't get finished because we get nobody in the box (Powell tactics) and our one half decent striker Yann is 30% fit. Mentioning the 9th place finish last season is a complete red herring. Fuller & Haynes have gone, Harriott has disappeared and poor old Jacko- our inspiration last term, looks well over the top these days. We will not stay up with the current squad and this manager.
valid points. but i did say "players he wanted". he probably knows jacko and harriott have turned to guff (along with a few others). the players he wanted probably don't play for us now as we never had the funds to bid for them. you can't say he would take us down - he bought the right players within budget in L1 to get us out of L1. if he had any sort of budget now, he'd probably do the same of take us close. you can only manage what you have. i couldnt think of a single other manager who would do so well with such austerity and put up with as much as he has.
But we can't stake the future of our Club on 'ifs' and 'maybes'. I have just seen Powell's press conference pre Derby County today - the guy looks totally shot. He is mumbling into his beard with platitudes. He doesn't strike me right now...with 5 months of his contract remaining, as a bloke who looks up for a fight in the trenches. When you can't change the things beyond your control (limited bunch of players) you must change something you can control (tired and spent manager, out of ideas) Honestly, the recent performances at QPR, Reading etc in terms of attacking intent have been as bad as you can get.
no amount of new ideas or energy will make our players better over night. they all came from L1 and it's showing.
Tony Pulis hasn't done badly at Palace with the same players that Holloway had. Hasn't one boss of yours at work got more out of you than another one has ? Powell's press conference today was borderline painful, it really was.
