Well, as the clubs have agreed to a friendly thought we could have a friendly, practice match-day thread about it. Full story at various media outlets;

Sunderland and Newcastle United will meet in a secret Wear-Tyne derby at the Stadium of Light this week.

Sportsmail understands that senior players will be involved in the game, which comes just seven weeks before they are due to face each other in the Premier League.

The decision to organise the practice match so close to their survival showdown at St James’ Park has stunned backroom staff.

A psychological game maybe? Maybe both teams see it as a potential confidence booster for their players.
Get a win behind closed doors against one of the relegation rivals and confidence would be up. Lose and play it off as a friendly that doesn't matter.

Ive read varying stories about this and it seems both sides wont be playing full strength teams. There may have even been invites sent to prospective clubs looking at fring players as a chance to see them in action. I expect the likes of Goufran, Marv, Obertan, Mbabu, to play.

But our squad isnt deep enough to play a full reserve side, unless we include youngsters, players like darlow, lacelles, rivieire and aarons to fill in.

As long as Catermole doesnt play, im happy that will lessen the chance of any of our players being injured.

If we are playing our youngsters I hope Johnson doesn't play either.

I assume this is because we both got dumped out of the cup. Its ok if its just the reserves not getting games. I suppose the concern is do you risk Aarons for match fitness?

Who do you think will get a red first, Mitro or Elbows

The question is - did we need a match???
Damn I thought I had deleted that before anyone saw it when I saw I was posting on the match thread!

Match is a great idea - if we lose its a friendly, if we win the losing streak is over. Also gives our new signings a chance to learn how crap their teammates are.
