Morning, all. Some of you may not have heard of St. Acca of Hexham (yes, he really existed - google him up), but today, 20 October, is his feast-day. I've been storing up this post for several years, but they never seem to race at Hexham on this date: before you rush to correct me, I expect that there has been a meeting but I've just overlooked it. Anyway, Acca was a mate of St. Wilfred - before he became Great and moved to Ripon, presumably - and seems to have been an all-round solid citizen and good egg. Because I know nothing of jump racing, I can't suggest a suitable acca to commemorate him, so I'll content myself with just the one, in the 5.15 at Sedgefield. HIgh Renown seems an appropriate choice, because I'm sure that many of you know the old drinking song "There was a monk of great renown", who did very inventive things with the local girls. Dicky Johnson does the honours, and I'm happy to invest a few quid to celebrate the old fella.
I've been going through the card at Sedgefield and can hopefully throw up some each way winners: 1.55 Brother Scott 2.30 Ritchie Star 3.35 Kingrullah 4.05 Kingswell Theatre NAP 4.40 Nicely Indeed 5.15 Robsam At Longchamp in the 6th race number 7 Sir George has run his best races in october and is up in trip after an eyecatching staying on performance over shorter recently. Any thoughts much appreciated Good luck
Racing is a tough sport at times, waking up to the Wicklow Brave story wasn’t expected. Such a talent, a horse I think that had been massively underrated by racing and to die on a racetrack is very sad.
Kempton 2.15 Prefontaine 2.45 Tiffin Top ew 3.20 Golden Taipan ew NAP 3.50 Darebin ew 4.25 Sofia's Rock ew 5.00 Net De Treve ew
Nice card at Kempton today and I remember The New One starting out in the listed hurdle on at least a couple of occasions. Which prompts the question: Is it still planned to bulldoze the venue to build houses? Not heard anything on that for a while.
If anyone is having a dull Sunday there is an exciting three page special interview with Michael Owen in today's racing post that might help pick you up a little
afternoon, lads! sedgefield,1 55: HEAVENLY PROMISE looks to run into form right now, after two starts with the o brien team, and shes on her last winning mark,so surely has a decent shout here..
I think Brother Scott is the danger to all in this. Ran well at the track in the past, low weight to carry and good conditional takes off valuable claim.
Seems to be a lot of market confidence in Itchy Feet in the listed hurdle at Kempton. Silver Streak on the drift but I'll have a bit of the 9/4. A proven 150s operator, good ground his optimum surface and gets 2 lb off the favourite. Kingswell Theatre also on the drift in the Durham National up at Sedgefield but I'll have a bit of the 17/2 ew too. Plenty of in and out sorts in this marathon slog but the selection has a good record fresh. Good luck all.
sedgefield,3 05: this looks very much a match between very useful hurdlers WINDSOR AVENUE and western ryder.in an ideal world,id have gone for the greatrex horse, who i like a lot,but course experience counts a lot here, and WINDSOR AVENUE will surelx be well schooled for this assignment..big shout.
Western Ryder is a lovely horse to go chasing with, he could outclass his field. Very surprised to see him at evens so perhaps he isn’t fully primed for today
Wouldn't be surprised if Thelongwayaround runs a sound race against the 2 market leader. Has won at Sedgefield and yard does well here.
well,a lot can happen in these races, but, barring accidents, these two should fight it out,and hopefully mine will win.. kempton,3 20: LONGHOUSE SALE shouldnt be judged too harshly on his last flop,as he didnt seem to take to the ground, and it was a very hot race too.i think,if all is well today,he can resume his progress..
