Is Burstow permanent? He's talking about us wanting to be in the Premier League which is where he wants to be. Strange thing to say when being loaned from a PL team if so?

Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the loan signing of striker Mason Burstow.

Arriving from six-time Premier League winners Chelsea, the highly sought after 20-year-old will spend the duration of the 2023-24 campaign at the Stadium of Light.

Burstow made his Premier League debut for the Blues earlier this month, featuring against West Ham United and then Luton Town before starting in a Carabao Cup victory over AFC Wimbledon.

The striker progressed through the ranks at Welling United and Maidstone United prior to joining Charlton Athletic and breaking into the Addicks’ senior team in 2021, aged 17.

Burstow moved to Stamford Bridge in February 2022 and immediately returned to The Valley on loan, ending the 2021-22 season with six goals and three assists in 23 first-team appearances.

The 20-year-old will not be available for selection when Tony Mowbray’s side face Southampton on Saturday.

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman added: “Mason is one of the brightest young centre forwards on the cusp of the Premier League environment and he is a player that we have monitored for some time. The moment that he became available, we did everything within our power to ensure we were his preferred destination and after fielding multiple offers from the UK and overseas, we are delighted that he has chosen Sunderland. Mason is a mobile number nine with experience in the EFL and he has had a really positive impact on Chelsea’s first-team squad this summer, so we are excited to see the impact he can make in our team.”

After arriving on Wearside, Burstow said: “I’m buzzing to be here – it’s a huge Club with a great Head Coach and big expectations. I’m here to bring goals to the team and keep supporters on the edge of their seats. I can’t wait to walk out at the Stadium of Light for the first time after the international break.”

Sorry to ask guys. But I've been working can see we have brought Burstow in (had to Google who he was as my knowledge is terrible).

Has anyone gone?
